I used up the original Epson ink (277) in my XP-970, so I inserted the cartridges from LD - 12 XL cartridges for about $24. The color is acceptable, but not good enough for something "good." Looking for a set of 277XL, I see nothing but generics. Epson is selling these individually for a total of $105, plus tax and shipping. Ridiculous? Naturally.
When I bought this printer, I wanted an ink tank that would print on disks. This XP-970 was the best I could do. My old HP C5280 doesn't print very well on disks anymore. It's over fifteen years old, so I can't complain.
I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and buy the ink directly from Epson.
Change of plans. B&H to the rescue! No sales tax and no shipping charge!
Hi Jerry,
I, too, bought the Epson XP-970. I saw that the XL carts contain more ink than the pro-rated price increase. I was then able to purchase all that I wanted from Amazon. Now I suspect you would be purchasing from Amazon.co.uk, and of course, I'm purchase it from Amazon.com here in the USA. But does this mean that Amazon.co.uk is not offering the same that we get from Amazon.com?
Just be careful. There was a time when I considered 'alternate' ink. Then I had a canon printer just shift to a totally "off" color, never to return, no matter what I did. I know, manufacturer's ink is always higher than alternate inks, but it might not be wise.

Finding Epson 227XL on Amazon is hit or miss. The generic brands often use the Epson colors on their packaging, so you have to be careful. I ordered directly from Epson. They were all listed, ne after the other. No searching.
That follows my post yesterday complaining about searches on Amazon. Search for "Epson 277XL," and you'll get Epson ink mixed in with the generics. If I wanted generic ink, I would search for "277XL compatible ink."
Okay - coming clean. I made an expensive mistake. I inserted the Epson cartridges ($110) and began printing disks. A dozen Epson ink disks looked just like the LD ink ($12) disk. I think it was a combination of the image and the disk surface that caused the variation between the monitor and the disk. Printing on paper with the LD resulted in a normal picture. When I finish printing all the disks, I'll put the LD ink back in and save the Epson for - something.
I'll have to cut out ice cream for a few weeks to make up for the money I wasted. 😥
