A Crossing of Two Trains.
Alice Springs in Central Australia is the approximate half way point on the 2,797 km (1,850 miles) rail journey from Adelaide in the south of South Australia to Darwin in the north of the Northern Territory - the route of the legendary Ghan passenger train.
I took the following photos late in the afternoon on Thursday 27th July 2023 while both the northbound and southbound trains were stopped at the Alice Springs Railway Station at the same time.
Southbound Ghan parked in a siding in the Alice Springs station yard while waiting for the northbound service to depart.

The northbound Ghan in the Alice Springs Railway Station waiting for the last of its passengers to board shortly before departure.

Close-up view of the coupling of the two locomotives on the northbound train.

Close up view of part of the bogie on one of the pair of NR class locomotives in charge of the northbound train.

A puff of smoke from the locomotives indicates that the driver is increasing power as the Ghan leaves Alice Springs in fading daylight at the start of its northward journey to Darwin.

Very nice. Makes me wiish even more that I could get out there on my own and get some more train photos. But vision handicap keeps me from driving. --Richard

Thank you for your comments Richard. Sorry to hear of your vision challenge. Unfortunately we do not always improve with age like a good wine does. Regards, Richard. (My first name is also Richard).
