I understand Oct - Feb (?) is prime time for whale watching / photography off of Redondo Beach / Newport Beach / etc. Has anyone done this, and perhaps feel that certain times are better than others ?
Always take the first boat out. Calmer waters made observing the whales easier. Oct - March are the Humpback migration months, June -sep there are blue whales. Always a good trip out.

any preference for viewing; would Long Beach be better than Redondo Beach, etc., for instance ? or they're always moving and you have to be a little bit lucky ? any tips on shooting, other than keep the camera to your eye ? is there any kind of advance warning they will appear ? are the boat skippers able to spot just a little bit earlier, from up on the bridge ?
We went to Cabo San Lucas a few times, and it can be a great whale watching location. My wife & daughter had a mother-daughter trip in January and did go on WW Tour. Myself I've only seen them from shore.
The first picture they got from the boat, the second I took from shore.

Has the observed warmer water affected this???
Go North to Monterey Bay. Whales are always there. Something about an undersea shelf and how much food is there. Year round the whale cruises go out and guarantee sightings or your money back.
