Nice post, bcheary. About every other year my parents drove out to visit his grandparents in Prescott, AZ. He would work all day (I'm sure my mother did to!), then when he came home we would be off. Mom drove through the night, dad took over in the morning and drove through the day. We'd end up near St Louis and spend the night. Repeat the next day all the way to Prescott. They did this for probably a dozen years. The interstate highways didn't exist back then, either.
My mom's favorite story was asking dad what he wanted packed for the trip. Several times he answered "All I want is the wind at my back and the sun in my face. A couple days later, near St Louis my father asked my mother, "Honey, where's my underwear," to which my mother would reply, " All I want is the wind in my back and the sun in my face."
Then she would laugh, and laugh. I think she did it.

Great series of photos. I was only 11 yrs old but I remember 1957. Thanks for posting.

I remember those days, and those cars, very well. I also remember cheap hamburgers. Last night, I saw an ad for the $5.00 McDonald's hamburger. 😳
