We are moving towards self driving cars, self driving cameras, and self driving photo editing. All of this seems to indicate that humans are becoming more and more fallible

...and less and less relevant. But I won't worry until the self-driving car goes where it wants without me.

Like it might go meet its buddys for beer and pizza and not even invite you along ?

Given the heavy traffic on most interstates these days, I do not see much of a need for self driving unless the system resolves issues associated with heavy traffic.

I just finished driving I 10 from Houston TX to Florida, and the return trip, and my guess is that I was able to use cruise control safely for only about 25%of the driving time, and most of this was from around 6:00am to 8:00am.

I doubt self driving cars will take over for those of us who drive in the dark with no clearly visible lines or in snow and heavy rain. Also those of us who actually take a Jeep off road on BLM trails which are barely maintained if ever.
Same with cameras.

I have a new car which has intelligent radar cruise control and lane departure avoidance. I'm still learning how to use them. On my first 10-hour road trip I safely used cruise control, even in heavy traffic, for many hours. It slows you down to maintain an adjustable minimum distance to the vehicle directly in front of you. If you pull out it increases your speed back to the set speed. Locally I've tested the lane departure feature and found it seems to keep the car in the lane following the road provided there are center and side lane markings. I'm a lot less comfortable with that than the cruise control.

Self-driving cars won't be ubiquitous until the insurance liability for who is at fault when an accident occurs is resolved. Who pays up when things go wrong?

The captain is ultimately responsible for his ship........
(No matter what tools at his disposal that he uses.)

Thank you for posting this info. The systems seem to be much more advanced than I was aware of.

Creators can often use AI tools to assist them with their creations. Those of us who allow AI based tools to do all the creating and all the finishing are not creators.

Too many people believe that the purpose of all AI tools is to take us out of the equation and do all the work themselves. While certainly there will be AI tools that will do that, most AI tools are designed to help us with tasks that are very difficult, very time consuming, and very tedious.

They still require very significant input from us. For instance, my post-processing software of choice is DxO PhotoLab. It's class leading noise reduction system is AI based but everything else requires input from a knowledgeable user..

It's a shame the "Main PHOTOGRAPHY DISCUSSION' forum moves further and further away from photography ever day.

Just mentioning the word camera should not qualify.

People don't pay attention to the category pick-list and just use the default, which usually happens to be the last category in which one was viewing.

As long as we do not become obsolete and let the machines take over.
