Planning to go with Naturalist Jorneys; has anyone ever gone with them on a workshop, crane or otherwise? Also trying to decide whether to go in 3rd week of March or last week - has anyone been there?

Yeah and it is cold. Dress warm make advance reservations in the bird blinds. Bring your telephoto, get up early and Dress Warm! I think either week would be OK, you got Sandhill Cranes up the wazoo! Sunrise can be fabulistic! Don't forget to dress warm

Not familiar with Naturalist Journeys. l’ve been to see the cranes the third week of March two different years and both times were fantastic. That said, the last week would probably be good too.

Kearney Nebraska bird blinds get you closer to the birds without disturbing them. Shhhh!

Either week will be fine. I agree with the others: dress warm and in layers. The blinds are a great spot to be at sunset, but book early as the spots fill quickly. Drive the back roads during the day and you will see thousands if birds in better light for even better pictures

Big takeaway here: dress warm!

My wife and I toured the Mexican countryside with Naturalist Journeys back in Feb this year. More serious birding than we'd anticipated but we learned lots from our excellent guides and other lovely people on the trip. I was welcome with my camera - birders don't hurry either. Cost was very reasonable given high quality guides, small group, and simple but authentic and excellent food.

Thanks - I did sign up; I'm older and I wanted to make sure any trekking I needed to do would not be
causing either me or any in the group any delay, etc.

Flannel lined trousers are essential. Take that from someone who learned that lesson whilst at Kearney during Crane Migration. Also be sure to check out the vendor booths at conference headquarters.
