Any visit to Savannah, Ga. MUST include going to the Bonaventure Cemetery. In addition to the many notable people buried there, it is certainly one of the most beautiful sites in our country that is dedicated to this use. It is huge in scope and the entirety of its northern boundary stretches along some of the most striking long-range marsh views you can imagine. The entire property is proliferated with massive oak trees dripping in heavy moss.

The photo ops are endless. However, shooting under bright sunlit skies can be very problematic due to that preponderance of trees. The lighting can be extremely mottled. Color shooting is tough, at best. When there, I shoot only B&W. And, if possible, I wait for a day with low cloud coverage which can mitigate a lot of the uneven light.

Thanks, Frank. When I first started to consider my options on shooting this scene, I could see this concentrated beam of light working its way up her body. I waited there for a good while until it lit up her face and cast a shadow of her head onto the stone monument. That's when I pulled the trigger. I think the shadow really makes the image.

Thanks, Brian. Have you ever made it to Bonaventure? If not, brother, you need to go.

I have been to Savannah several times in the past but I stay away from cemataries. Not my bag! Probably because I am too close to the firing squad (crematory)!

You are absolutely right on both counts. I delight in indulging my appetite for Savannah every chance I get. Thankfully, over the years, my wife and I have made many friends up there that represent a wide spectrum of the social strata. If you want to know the REAL Savannah, it's imperative that you have associations with folks that can maneuver through the many hidden undercurrents that prevail there.

Thank you so much for that enlightenment. I had known that the suicide story was incorrect but how your fleshed out the truth is greatly appreciated.
