I just returned from a driving trip to Ohio and spent the night near Knoxville, Tennessee, the site of the 1982 World’s Fair.
The remains of the fair include the Sunsphere and the Tennessee Amphitheater.
The Knoxville Fair was the last successful world’s fair in America.
The Sunsphere stands 26 stories tall….each pane of glass is made with 24 karat gold, giving its reflective gold color……each pane cost around $1000 when constructed.

We wanted to take our kids there and made reservations way in advance. Of course that required sending money. When we got to TN we discovered there was no motel, just an empty lot, and our money was gone. Scammers were active in 1982.
