I am thinking about selling my Sony 24-105mm and purchasing a Tamron 35-150mm, any thought?

Do it.

The marketplace desperately needs more used Sony lenses. TIA.

How much will you ask for it?

If the Tamron 35-150mm fits your photo needs better, go for it. Many folks love that Tamron lens as their walk-around lens, even though a bit heavy.

I love my Sony 24-105mm f4 G OSS lens and it has been stalwart for me and Sony's #1 selling E-mount lens for a reason. I prefer having the wider 24mm on the wide end, and I have the Sony 135mm f1.8 GM for longer and faster if needed, as well as even longer lenses in my kit. .

I would look at your fav shots and see what focal lengths you are shooting at mostly, that might tell you what works best for your needs. Do you have any lenses longer than 105mm focal length right now?

Here are some comparisons of the two lenses:

Just three shots out of countless thousands I have made with my Sony 24-105mm f4 G OSS lens:

1) A shot that was chosen a Worldwide Photo of the Week by Sony Alpha Photographers in 2021. Environmental Scientist Brooke H. in a slot canyon near Upper Antelope Canyon, Navajo lands, Page, Arizona, USA. Sony A9, Sony 24-105mm f4 G OSS lens, 24mm, ISO 400, f4, 1/30 sec. handheld, all natural sunlight in the canyon.

2) Another Award Winning shot. A local swimmer dives off a pier into the Caribbean Sea in the town of Grand Case, on the Island of St. Martin. Sony A9, Sony 24-105mm f4 G OSS lens, 24mm, ISO 400, f5.6, 1/2000 sec., handheld, all natural sunlight.

3) Sunrise over Brookings Lake, Manistee National Forest, Michigan, USA. Sony A1, Sony 24-105mm f4 G OSS lens, 73mm, ISO 100, f22, 1/40 sec. handheld, all natural light.

I'd keep that 24-105. Too much range lost at the wide end if you start at only 35mm. The few times 105 is not long enough, just crop in a bit.

A lot depends upon what type of shooting you are doing and what camera you are using. I tested the Tamron 35-150mm and found it was a heavy beast, and that the colors were not as good as the lens (Sigma 24-70 f2.8) I was thinking of replacing. Also, if you are shooting jpg.s, then some cameras can be programmed to utilize the APS-C part of the sensor giving you further reach. So there is thought involved. The best reason to buy one is so that you do not have to switch lenses at an event. So only you can make that decision.

I agree.

I personally have 13 E-mount lenses covering 10mm to 600mm from Sony, Sigma and Tamron, and the Sony 24-105mm f4 G OSS is by far my most used lens professionally and personally.

Cheers and best to you.

First...you must understand that members here must sign a sort of secret Wide Angle Allegiance Pledge as a condition for advancing through the ranks. Second...I have used a 24-120mm zoom as the default lens on my DX camera for about three years now and am very happy with it for that purpose. That lens on that camera is functionally very similar to the lens you are looking at on a full frame camera. So if you shoot anything like I do, I'm guessing you would very pleased with it.

Just don't tell anyone here about either of us. And note that my comments apply only to the focal length range. I do not have experience with either of the specific lenses you are referencing. My suspicion is that the Tamron may fall somewhat short of the Sony in terms of overall design and possibly usability.

The Sony is similar to the OM 12-100 f4 Pro IS in range. And almost every one of us that owns one would agree with you that the wide end is necessary. And almost all of us love using it day in and day out. The one advantage you have at this time is if you need a "200mm" crop, you have enough pixels that allow you to do so. I refer to the OM 12-100 as the "Swiss Army knife" of the photographic industry. The Sony 24-105 should probably carry the same moniker.

Like you, Ive got no problem with "just crop a bit". But THAT is why I could be interested in 35-150, but would prefer a lightweight f:3.5 or 4.0. The 50-200mm range never caught on but I wish that it had stuck around. I still have a vintage 35-140/3.5 (heavy, ye olde tech).

If I "just crop a bit" a 35-150 could fill that bill, perhaps even better than a 50-200, but f/2.0 to 2.8 ? No need in 2023.

I thank everyone who responded to my post. Based on your comments, my age and health issues, I decided to keep the Sony 24-105. A special thanks to gwilliams6 for your detailed comments.

Again, thanks to all who was kind enough to respond.

I took my Sigma 24-105 f/4 to France last year and to Jordan and Egypt this year....worked out great...with 42 MP in my a99ii I have plenty of wiggle room to crop in if I need anything and I could stitch multiple images if the subject was too wide. It was the only lens i brought with me...besides, the tour limited the amount of baggage. I love it.
