Smart Photo Editor

I am a Lightroom Classic subscriber and use it at least monthly processing photos. Photography is my hobby not profession. I attended a workshop where Smart Photo Editor was quickly demonstrated. The cost (best recollection) was $29 for a stand alone and $49 to link with Lightroom.

I’m wondering if anyone else on this forum uses Smart Photo Editor and what you think of it. The demo was awesome, but I’m wondering if it’s just another type of GAS. I seem to take a lot of photos that I never get back to process in Lightroom, I’m wondering if this might help address that issue.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

I'm an advanced hobbyist. I have been using Adobe Photoshop nearly daily for many years and I am happy with that. I do much of my processing with the Adobe Camera Raw Application (Similar to the Develop Module of Lr CC). For specific images I also use some of the older Filters in NIK and Topaz.

OP wrote "I seem to take a lot of photos that I never get back to process in Lightroom, I’m wondering if this might help address that issue." My thought is that you do not really like doing the Post Processing of your images. Some people only like working with the camera, your choice. Are you looking for a program that will be easier for you and/or more automated?

I enjoy PP'ing, often when I have no new image files to process I re-process old images, sometimes from many years ago. I would suggest you stay with Lr CC until you master it or outgrow it. "The grass is greener on the other side of the hill" syndrome is not a good use of ones time and effort and never ending. There are many competing PP and PP + Cataloging Programs out there but Photoshop is the Gold Standard and Lightroom is the Silver Standard. Everyone else seems to try to copy them. Also the is Photoshop Elements (PSE) that you can buy outright without a subscription, and the was a version of Lr that you could purchase if you can still find an unused copy.

Does the Smart Photo Editor do things you can't do in Lightroom/Photoshop?

I actually do enjoy pp but hard to find a block of time to knock it out. I know I save way too many shots with the expectation that I’ll get to them. I appreciate your suggestions. I rarely use “auto” I don’t care for the way it processes them most of the time. I was just thinking the new program might be an alternative. I have the non- subscription LR 6 but only use the subscription. I am a little familiar with photoshop but only for select things. Probably best suggestion is to get better with LR as you say.

Probably not…It gives previews of your photos with specific editing/filters/presets. Like LR Presets. There are over 600 variations. It will let you delete unwanted items and add a frame or border (which I need for camera club entries and presently do in PS). Actually, I’m not sure how I feel giving up control of so much editing, but then again that might be just what I need! ?? Still thinking it through.

I have it and have used it on occasion. It has hundreds of filters, some quite unique (or slightly crazy). It is updated with new filters often and does that when you open the software. It really depends on what you want to do. The program will do things you cannot do in PS or LrC. If you just want borders I'd recommend you try PhotoScape X, it is free. If you do purchase it then you have additional options. I use it all the time for borders. I process everything in LrC, use PS as needed, use Topaz for impressionist work.

Here are a couple of shots with borders and work done in Topaz.

Thanks for your input. Your photos are lovely. I guess the fact I haven’t just gone and downloaded it means I don’t really “need” it, I guess it’s the old “fear of missing out”.

I have used it once in a while for many years and have a lot of fun. It is easy to use when I don't want to think too hard about what I'm doing.

I use Smart Photo Editor when my creativity (fresh ideas) need a boost. It is a clever program, and provides dozens of alternative edits to photos on screen at the same time, in pages of ten to compare. All the usual tools as well.
