I do not know how to add anything constructive to this thread. So I will just watch and see how weird it gets.

Amazing how that works, eh? How do people think that a software package knows when an update is available, or that you have the latest update? It communicates with the mother ship. Which probably includes your usage metrics.
That's why my antivirus / firewall software asks me to approve or block any attempts by new software to 'phone home'.

Yes - that is the same EXIF Cleaner I recommended on the first page of this thread.

Open source is a little confusing to me. I try to stay away from Git hub because I don't understand it. In reference to

LOL ..... I find that using an old army helmet covered with little mirrors (like the ones in cameras) works best. Takes a lot of epoxy though.

Go here - -https://opensource.com/article/22/4/keep-exif-data-private-exifcleaner
Then scroll down to select the right version - for MAC or PC

Install ExifCleaner
ExifCleaner is released under the MIT license. It's easy to use and install.
Download and install the AppImage, deb, or rpm file on your Linux system.
For macOS and Windows, download the macOS installer or the Windows installer.

Using a SUPPORTED OS with up to date virus/malware definitions WILL, and the two extra SW packages I suggested will add another layer of protection. That (in addition to WIFI network encryption if applicable) and good computing practices is how to protect a computer from spyware/malware/viruses. If the OP cannot perform the upgrade, then having a professional accomplish that is money well spent IF he is as concerned about security as he states.

Windows 11 will allow you to select one or a bunch of files in Explorer, right-click on it/one, look at properties then details. and there is an option to "remove details and all personal information" from the file(s).
I've not tried it though.
I would highly recommend making a couple of copies of files and try it on the copies before using it on everything else, it MAY also remove stuff that you might want to keep...

I use an app called ImageOptim 2. I have this on the desk top of my Mac. Very quick and efficient.
https://imageoptim.com/mac I believe it is also available for PCs.

Try FileMind QuickFix software, a metedata scrubber. You do not have to be online to use.
