And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth.

And then God made the earth round..... and God laughed and laughed and laughed.

Jeez, is this sort of misogynist crap common currency in the USA? Give me good old liberal Europe any day!
I'm just a dumb American so I don't know what "misogynist crap" means. Would you mind telling me so I won't be so dumb. I hate being dumb.

:cry:

Never said anything about being dumb so don't start putting words into other people's mouths. But it's 2012 and jokes about wives not being 'obedient' aren't really funny any more. Actually, they never were, tho the bible-thumpers will cling onto archaic ideas from their bronze-age Big Book of Magic Stuff, I guess.

I did not say you said I was dumb, so do not put words in my mouth either. You did not answer the question, I don't know what that word means, do you? and can you tell me so I won't be dumb. Sorry to disappoint you but people who have moved on find old traditions and social norms to be humorous in light of present day values. If you cannot laugh at yourself I am sorry but some of us will do anything for a laugh, even post silly stuff on here.

Sorry - misread your earlier text as sarcasm. Misogyny means, literally, woman-hating, but can generally be used to describe anti-woman attitudes and beliefs. Now I have no problem with humour, but I seem to come across a strong seam of anti-women, anti-wife humour on these forums which, frankly, aren't very funny. And more of them seem to come from Americans (and I'm guessing right-wing Americans) than anyone else. There is also a strong thread of reactionary, anti-liberal views expressed on these forums and, as a Briton who is proud to call himself a liberal, I was having a go at hitting several birds with one stone. My original post was intended to be humorous too, which just goes to show that one person's humour might be another's offensive remark. But before I get away from the subject of misogynist jokes altogether, how would people feel if the joke had been racist instead of sexist/misogynistic?
quote=workhorse quote=Bazamac quote=workhorse ... (show quote)

Thank you, now I am better informed. I do happen to be a conservative, at least fiscally, I am also a Southern Baptist, I am more Native American (Ottowa Indian) than anything else. Making fun of or ridiculeing an individual is never ok. With that being said I believe that far too many people are just looking for something to be offended by and refuse to laugh at themselves. I rather break it down like this; if you want to tell a joke about Indians (and it is funny) that's ok, I will laugh, however, it is not alright to make a joke about Ira Hayes because he is an individual. Does that make sense? I believe that the vast majority in this country have moved way beyond seeing women as inferior in anyway shape or form. Quite the contrary in fact. At least the people I hang out with have moved on. Heck some of us even let our wives drive and have a check book. (That is a joke because there was a segment of society here that even in the 1960's thought wives should not write checks and control a bank account) If you tried that today you would probably find yourself on the wrong end of a divorce. Anyway, I am glad to add misogynistic to my vocabulary. As a Social Worker I should be ashamed of myself and think I will go sit in the corner. Another joke, social worker type.

Take care

I wish folks would not condone stuff like women hating.

I like women.

I think every man should have a couple.

nothing good comes from reading promises in a holy book.

bull, please tell me you are not serious! :(

i've come to belive that holy books are the imagination of man atributited to god.why does god need to make promises to us? why does god need obedience,worship, or sacrifice from man?
Just like you do not need a big screen TV or a camera, or beer, God does not need anything you attribute to Him. But like you wanting your things, God does want those things, obedience, worship, etc. I do not know what has made you calused and sceptical but I will pray for your recovery. I promise it won's hurt you and will make me feel better. Out of curosity, are you old enough to remember a place called "Walt's Boat Livery" on Pontiac Lake?

wanting is an atribute we ascribee to god.like the romans and greeks did.i don't belive in sin. crime yes, sin no but if you must, knock yourself out. i moved to pontiac in 1984,, but i don;t remember walts boat livery. also i belive religeon is a product of our "ego". and just when did god ttell us what he wants?
