This is the first time I ever tried post processing a phone photo. It is my great grandson Luca who was six months old a week before I took these shots. I’ve got a lot to learn about taking and processing smartphone photos.

I think you’re doing fine. Take photos with the smartphone just like you would with any other camera. Work on composition. In this case, you could remove the leg that photobombed the photos by cropping it out. Or you could just simply adjust your composition by moving in a bit closer to your subject or by changing the angle a bit to eliminate it. Smartphones do most of the work, but the photographer does all the composition. Keep taking photos and we’ll be looking forward to seeing more.

Simply a camera in a different container (housing).
Still a camera.
One just holds and operates it differently.

Thanks for that. The IPhone 15 will be coming out this fall, you might want to wait and see what it has to offer. I went from an IPhone 8+ to an IPhone 13 Pro max and the upgrade was pretty significant in terms of low light capabilty. I didn't upgrade to the IP 14 because I didn't see that much of a difference from the 13. Again, welcome to our section. I look forward to seeing your posts.

Thanks for the input. I might try exporting to photoshop and then cloning the legs and foot out. Need to get more familiar with the tools in the iPhone including its crop tool. After more than twenty years using photoshop and then Lightroom when it came out the iPhone tools seem rathe primitive

I'm not sure you are aware but there is a free editing app for your IPhone. It's called Snapseed. While it won't take the place of Photoshop it does a pretty good job. Here's a complete guide on how to use it.

A friend took a travel photo with her iphone. The composition was damaged by a human that was in the photo. I offered to work on getting it out with Photoshop. While I was getting a copy into my computer she was working on it in Snapseed. By the time I got Photoshop and the file open she had it fixed with Snapseed.

You would be amazed at how far the iPhone has come with the 14 series, but I would recommend the 14 Pro Max. The screen is bigger and the lenses are better. The “long” telephoto lens has a longer focal length than the 14 or 14 Pro, and the I believe the Pro Max has a slightly larger sensor. That being said, the iPhone 15 series comes out in September and it might be worth the wait to see what it offers over the 14 series. If it’s not that much improvement, go for a left over iPhone 14 Pro or Pro Max as they generally start to offer some pretty good deals when the new series comes out. Just food for thought. By the way, I have the iphone 13 Pro Max as well as a Sony A6300 and RX100VII, and I use my iPhone probably 95% of the time.

Welcome to the section. Great first posts and an adorable subject. How old is Luca? i agree with all the reviews same camera different box and getting used to. I shoot with an I phone 14 pro with a windows computer. I would get the cable to transfer the files to your computer if you have a windows if not yoiu can air drop them to an apple. One suggestion would be to get eye level with him just like with a regular camera. I would also wait for the 15 as it might be much improved if not the 14 pro or pro max might be less money once the 15 comes out. Good luck and keep posting.
