Mass Shootings again

Two more mass shooting today one at a Baltimore block Party with 2 dead and 30 injured. The other at a Kansas night club with 9 hurt. Our gun laws did nothing to stop either of the violence. Yet, some still clammer for more laws being needed. When will these people come to the realization: laws (new or old) won’t stop evil doers. So, I suggest, let’s do away with ALL the laws currently on the books and re-write new laws to a more manageable six or so new ones which will cover all or at least most gun crimes. These new laws will cover but not stop evil any more than the 20,000 laws we now have.

Proposed new laws:

1) It is illegal to injure or kill someone with a firearm unless in self-defense. Brandishing a firearm at anyone is illegal unless you fear your life in eminent danger.

2) Anyone who has been deemed mentally ill may not possess or own a firearm until being given a clean bill of health by no less than 3 or more doctors.

3) Convicted felons may never own or possess a firearm unless cleared by a court.

4) Mandatory sentences if convicted of a crime committed with a firearm up to including life and or the death penalty.

5) In order to buy a firearm a mandatory background check is necessary. Severe penalties if the applicant intentionally lies on the application.

6) Minimum age to purchase or own a firearm is 18.

From a Google search. How many gun laws are there in the United States. Is 20,000 at least in the ballpark?
Yes. No one really knows for sure what the exact number is. But the 20,000 figure has been quoted by reliable sources for at least a decade. And many more have been passed in that time.

The proposed new laws cover (most) violence with a gun but will not stop gun violence any better than the 20,000 laws we now have on the books do. They will however make knowing gun laws easier to understand for the people who won’t abide by them anyway. Also, maybe it will make those who think we need more laws understand the fact that more laws haven’t, won’t and never will solve the problem.

Let’s stop thinking ignorant thoughts that more laws will solve the problem. We probably will never totally solve the problem of gun violence so let’s start thinking defense. Begin by doing things that will limit the opportunities evil doers have. Not by more laws and talk, but by deeds we can accomplish that may actually help.

This is something each state would have to individually adopt.
Ps owning a gun at 18?
Silly.
My friends and I all had guns at 8 years old and none shot anyone or committed a crime with one.
But I agree that any crime committed with a gun involved should be dealt with severely. I prefer a mandatory death sentence within 30 days of conviction.

Can’t rent a car until 25, can’t purchase a gun until 25. Can hunt and target shoot but only when supervised by legal gun owner.

You had a gun at 8 but were supervised by your parents.

I had a gun at 14 but had to hunt with an adult but at 16 I was able to hunt small game on my own and large game at 18. Never gave a thought to shooting anybody.

Absolutely not.
We got on bicycles, some were city boys with no horses, and rode our bicycles into the desert by ourselves.

Many, if not all of your proposed new anti gun laws are already on the books in numerous states. You are 100% correct that gun laws do not stop crimes EVER. Back in the 1970's when I was a LEO the number of gun laws was commonly touted to be around 25,000. I suspect that number has gone up since then. But no matter the number not one of those laws nor any new laws proposed would have ever stopped a murderer from committing any type of violent crime, would never have prevented any school or church shooting whatsoever.

America already HAS laws against murder and other violent crimes. Those laws are not being enforced due to Left Wing thinking. Washington, DC is thinking about or already has weakened the penalties for violent crimes. How completely stupid/idiotic is that nonsense? First Liberal district attorneys allow criminals out of jail without bail even for some violent crimes. Then penalties for violent crimes are being reduced. The lying corrupt Left Wingers are taking pity on the criminals rather than on the victims. You cannot get much dumber or more anti American than the Left Wing.

Isn't it amazing how the Left ASSUMES and just KNOWS your parents were supervising you when you had firearms at 8 years old. Like you my brothers and I had firearms at a very early age also. When my twin brother and were about 11 years old my parents went with us to almost all the gun stores around us in NYS and gave the owners permission to sell us whatever rifles or shotguns we wanted as long as we had the money. As we worked odd jobs and mowed lawns we often had the money to purchase any number of firearms. My father was not a hunter but when we turned 14 and were legal to hunt with parental supervision he went with us about three times. That was it. From that point on we went by ourselves. Nobody shot, nothing done illegally, no problems at all. We were responsible kids and had no need for supervision. Our parents and actually the local police all knew what was going on but said nothing.

Guns are nothing but tools. Like all tools they can be misused or used as a weapon of some sort. It is the Left who has put a negative impact on the usage of firearms for all purposes, even hunting, target shooting, self defense and so on. Not one of these things are a negative and yet the Left tells us it is to suit their anti gun/anti American agenda.

Dennis,
I still have that 1st rifle.
The surprising thing is how accurate that old rifle is considering the rough use it had.
And all this time it has never shot anyone even though back then it was never locked away.

I got my first Red Rider BB gun at 6 and was supervised for about the first year. I got my first single shot 22 at age 11 and was supervised until I got my Boy Scout Rifleman Merit Badge and bought my first revolver a 22 at age 16 and was never supervised. Now I have one or two more and not a single one has ever shot a person. For a long time they were in a closet and unsupervised. The unfortunate fact is I could go downtown and shoot up the main drag and 30 years from now when they got around to executing me the populace would say "they executed old Amielee last night, I wonder what he did." If the stick does not exist the carrot will not work. Leniency is for kids, adults answer for their crimes.

A marriage license is far easier to get than a driver’s license and has far greater societal impact. Do you have an actual point?
Our schools are teaching children how to sodomize each other but not how to balance a check book. Do you have an actual point?

Unfortunately in some cases I have always been a gun buyer, seller and trader. But I look back at some of those rifles I had back when I was still much closer to 12 than I am now and the thought of me selling or trading them brings tears to my eyes. Who would ever have thought a Model 70 Supergrade in 22 Hornet would stop being made in 1963? Who would thunk prewar Mausers or a Swedish Model 94 Carbine in perfect condition would be hard to find especially when magazine ads sold them for $29.99, a HUGE sum of money back then. Numerous Damascus barreled Parkers and L. C. Smiths passed through my hands because the theory then was they were dangerous to fire. Today I have a few of each and fire all of them from time to time including two 10 gauges, one Parker Brothers and one early L. C. Smith made around 1886. I have more but enjoy shooting those two.

As I pointed out, many rifles, shotguns and pistols of all types were sold on the backs of magazines. It is amazing that back then there were no mass shootings, firearms were looked upon as an American tradition and numerous people had firearms because the likes of movie stars, Clark Gable, Gary Cooper, John Wayne and some females too, starred in ads recommending them for sportsmen and women. It is only the Left who demonizes firearms.

The courts and cops need to crack down, similar to what Giuliani did in NYC. The cops know who are the criminals in their communities but are not allowed to do what needs to be done to make the communities safe. Time to build new prisons and clean up the streets. No matter what laws are written nothing is going to change until the bad guys creating the environment in which this is taking place are behind bars.

So true.
Society has changed not firearms.
The value for life now is near zero among many, mostly all on the left. They have inculcated for decades that killing babies is a badge of honor and kids growing up seeing this believe because of this life has no value.
