Harris' Hawk Edited

We live at high elevation where the usual conceptions of weather in Arizona don't apply, so in the winter we like to get away for a while to the desert. When in Tucson, I always make it a point to get to the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, which is a combination of zoo and desert botanical garden. Twice a day they have a raptor free flight show, where handlers let birds like this Harris' Hawk go and then bait them back. They have transmitters on them so if they decide to keep going they can be tracked, but while free, they are allowed to fly about in the desert unimpeded. It's a great way for me to practice bird-in-flight shots, experiment with autofocus settings, etc., and since I have myself on the list for the new Nikkor Z 180-600, and I now shoot mirrorless Nikons, I will probably be back there this winter.

I post this here because I did basic raw editing in ACR, then took it into Photoshop for cropping and spotting with the AI Remove tool. He was perched on a branch, and because of the angle, there was only sky behind him, so I used Generative fill and with a rectangular marquee, made a selection across the bottom, just below the bird's feet, and typed "Sonoran Desert" in the prompt. It added some branches, but most of all I was intrigued by the out of focus background.

Nikon D2X, Nikkor AF 80-400 f/4.5-5.6.

That's just fine!!! ?Did she lose her talons on the left foot in editing, or was she 'clawless'? Big loss for her - those'r her killing and tenderizing tools when kneading prey, as well as her catchers.

Pretty sure that was careless editing. Probably the AI and I never saw it.

In my mind, that is a perfect example of why AI editing is not ready for prime time.
