Life and Sunflower in the most unexpected place.

I was driving down the street and coming up to a new highway, maybe open 4 or 5 years. 161 running from DFW down to I-20 here in Texas mid cities. This is the kind of stuff that captures my photographic interest. So, I went home and grabbed my trusty Nikon D200 and returned to try and grab a few images. Yes it was at intersection of the service road. The barrier retaining wall you see the flower is growing from has no soil to support it. The panels are sealed with some kind of stuff not natural, SO I had NO idea HOW this seed and flower became live and was there for me to capture it. So, I had to park off the side in the dirt so I could get a perspective of this. It has not returned. Now the temperature was around 100 at this time but sun flowers seem to thrive in the Texas heat.
This was early June of 2008.
Quite unusual.
Hear ya go Hoggers.
Bruce.

Where there's a will, there's a way! Canoeing the Green River in Utah, I have often seen little trees growing on top of bare rocks all along the River.

First thing that came to mind was "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn". Nice catch.

That’s a really unusual place to sprout a plant - can’t be much soil and moisture there.

BTW, have all freeways in the DFW metro area been converted to toll roads yet under the TDOT “Mobility Plan”?

Very unusual for sure. Temps were 100 degrees but sunflowers flourish in this though.
Freeways going toll ? where did you hear that from ? HELL NO and I mean hell no they are not going toll. The picture of this sunflower was on the new toll road highway 161. It IS NOT tax payer funded or supported. It is an NTTA road and totally supported by the toll tags. It is a very nice highway too.
We do not have many toll roads here but the ones we have are very nice and not expensive to use.
Thanks for the reply, glad you viewed it.

The toll roads in California are priced far beyond reasonable. Before I married my wife, I used to take the toll road to visit her at her house. It would cost me a little over $8.00 each way for an 18-mile trip. And the surface was in disrepair in several sections.

Uh ? well dude, California ? that state is a sad example of stupidity out of control. Sadly many Cali people have moved to Texas to get away from that mess and now out beloved state is turning, sadly, to crap. If Cali was not so messed up I would be living there myself. To me, it is the most perfect state in the country.
And yes I have been there several times.
Well it is the times we live in and I hope someday Cali can come back to reality.
Bruce.
