In 1955, General Motors resurrected the storied name of Lasalle and used it to name these cars shown here. They were design exercise cars, never anticipated to become road cars. Obviously, though, you can plainly see some features that showed up later in full production cars. As with all cars created as design exercises, these were scheduled for mandatory destruction. Two high-level employees elected to skirt the orders and had them hidden away in an obscure salvage yard. They remained there for years before they were discovered.

The first car here is the Lasalle Sedan. Note the rear-hinged doors. The second one is the Lasalle Roadster.

I would have love to have one and go into a parts store (when you could still buy 1955 parts) and say I need a left ballpoint for a 1955 Chevy Lasalle. 🤣

Wow! I never realized that GM almost resurrected the Lasalle, even in name. I looked at a 1944 Lasalle, when I was in college in the early 70's. I made the mistake of taking my Mother with me. If my Father had gone with me, I would have ended up buying the car!

My first car was a 55 Chevy 4 door sedan. It was a hand-me-down from my mom. That was in 1957. The 4 door sedan wasn't too sexy but beggars can't be choosy. When my mom got her '57 Chevy she must have gotten some religion....it was a black 2 door hardtop, stick shift, and the Power Pack option. She actually ran that thing several times at a local drag strip, got beat and said she just didn't want to hurt her car. I did get her to put fender skirts on it. I didn't get to drive it very often until she got her '59, then she gave the '57. I flogged the fire out of that thing, ended up with 2 4 -barrel carbs and a few other tweaks. That was the end of the free rides. From that point on, my cars were all on me.

Thanks for the visit.

That's a good question. It would, I think, have been either the Buick or the Pontiac. I don't think it would have been the Cadillac. I think Buick.

I was blessed with a different picture. Both my parents were certified gear heads.

Thanks for the visit.
