I don't know, freeing a race from slavery seems to be a pretty big occasion in our country's history, certainly as big as any of our other holidays, now months celebrating sexual persuasion or even black history seem to go a bit far considering that Memorial Day is just that a day set aside for those who have given the greatest sacrifice defending those back at home so they could live their lives in peace.

I was surprised last week when I was told that there is a Jewish Heritage Month. I haven't seen anything on TV or the internet about it. There were no celebrations out here on the left coast for that.

It's a rather obscure event, yet it's been blown way out of proportion to its importance anywhere.

If blacks want to celebrate the end of slavery, then why not petition for a holiday celebrating the 13th Amendment. It was ratified December 6, 1865. Or, alternatively, since the Emancipation Proclamation was in effect January 1, 1863, and Texas was "in rebellion", slaves were automatically freed.
