I'd like to register my Z8, so I went to the Nikon site. The first thing I had to do was specify the camera. I have to do that in a Search box. Does anyone know what the name of the Z8 is? I finally found out after trying several variations and then looking online.

I've been saying for years that camera companies need better systems for naming models.

It's brain is a lot newer than yours. Put it on automatic, take some pictures and have fun pixel peeping.

I love it already. It has a great feel - like it was designed for my hand. I'm not going to use the Nikon strap, though. Maybe OP/Tech or a slide strap, too many choices, though. : )

If you try to register your Z8 on the Nikon site, you must use the correct name. It is not the Nikon Z8; it is not the Z8. Entering either of them will get you "No results found."

The name that will work is "Z 8" As the title says: "Ridiculous Situation."

Google will parse a request and give you possible results. It's time for other programs to be able to parse information to correct typing errors and overly restrictive naming.

Most cameras have a tiny plate on the base that has the "official" name. OTOH the need of a space between Z and 8 on the website may just be a random result of how the webmaster happened to type it that day. Best way is a pulldown list of names so you dont hafta guess at it.

Usually the official name is on the base.

Those very same words are in just about every review I read or watched. The owner of NikonRumors posted his own lengthy review yesterday.

Like you he didn't really know why he ordered one (the song of the siren) as he was very content with his Z6, but now that he has it, he loves it and how it fits his hand.

I entered the S/N off the warranty card, but I thought "I had a Z8." It surprised me that there was no pull-down list, and "Z8" got me the reply that they had nothing like that name. Bad programming.
