Spectrum is now allowed to institute charge extra for using more data - "data caps." When it bought the company from Time-Warner, it had to wait before imposing data caps. It tried in 2021, but it was turned down by the FCC. Now, it is free to put limits on how much data we can use for the amount we are paying. Want more data? Pay more money. There's no way of knowing what they'll do, but they have the option of bringing in millions more dollars every month. Will they decide that they are already making enough money?

It's very difficult to talk to a human at Spectrum. First, you have to satisfy the robot by pressing the right buttons in response to the questions. Then you have to satisfy the second and third robots. Eventually, there are no good choices, and the voice says goodbye and disconnects.
I was able to speak to a man with a heavy southern accent who was in a noisy call center. I could hear about a dozen other people talking in the "Retention" call center. It was a bad connection, and he kept putting me on hold. Although I wanted to cut my cable bill, he was more concerned with adding mobile service to my account. Eventually, he offered me "Essential TV" for $104/month. That included many streaming services, but nothing local - ABC, CBS, NBC, etc. And that $114 was probably in addition to the $80 for Internet.
They have all the power.
For $200 might as well get verizon fios, tv, internet and phone.

Actually now Spectrum has a lot of stores (because they now have mobile) and I just go there and talk to a real person fact to face. I know you don't want to leave the house. But if they put the cap I will change.

There is a store not far from me. I'll give it a try.
I eventually got to a woman in "Retention." She was in a quiet room, and I could understand her. She gave me a new modem with Gigabit service, a new TV plan, a DVR, a Samsung tablet, and cut about $100/month off my bill. The price is guaranteed for three years. Included in the monthly payment is $4.99, which goes toward the Samsung tablet, and I'll own it after three years. If I change my mind, I can return it at any time. I'll take a look at the tablet when it arrives and decide if I want it.
