I'm paying my friend $114 for a front row ticket to a Buddy Guy performance on Thursday. I looked on the site, and Big Thief will be playing there soon. Tickets are $652 for center orchestra seats. That boggles my mind. That's $1,304 before the "convenience fee" for a couple to attend.
I'm glad that when I was younger, I could call on the phone and get tickets to a Broadway show for a decent price. We'd drive down after work, see the play, and drive home. We would go almost every month. Now, you're lucky if you can get a ticket for $100.
I just looked - $347 for what used to cost me $25 in the 1970s. And don't say it's inflation! The cost wasn't even a consideration back then; now, it's a joke.
Sounds like Big Thief is appropriately named.

The Miles Davis Tribute is about the same.
Haha...
I really like some performers,
but I don't like them $600 worth!
Nada, nope, no way.

If I like them, I’ll purchase their music for far less…$100 at the most is about all i’d ever pay to see a quality artist. Like you Jerry I saw Elton John in 1974 for about $50 for a pair of tickets…near the front. I paid $65 ea to see Linda Eder a couple months back, fantastic music and about as much as I want to pay….can’t see paying 3, 4, 5 hundred per ticket would be any better, no matter who the artist is.
However I would have paid much more (one time) to see Manhattan Transfer’s 50th and final tour, just missed their one performance in Florida, sadly can’t make the others, too far. Cheers

I saw Moody Blues at the Arena in Orlando circa 1998. Tickets were not objectionable, otherwise I would not have gone.

Reasonable prices will bring in more attendees…I really wanted to see Alison Krause in Jax a year ago but the ~$200 range was, I thought, ridiculous…her album was far cheaper..😊

If they can fill the venue, then they won't lower prices. By the way, I went to a concert by The Jefferson Starship in Central Park and another by the New York Philharmonic, also in Central park, and they were free. This was in the 70s.

That was nice....that was also the 70's.
Cheers
Recently in Nashville, Taylor Swift set a record for sold out concerts. She sold out Nissan Stadium 3 nights in a row. Seating capacity at Nissan is over 69 thousand.Ticket prices start around #1000.00 You can do the math.

You're assuming a lot. 🤣
In most cases, the performers have little or no control over ticket prices. Ticket agents can buy up thousands within a couple of minutes and then sell them at ridiculous prices. You can watch "for free" on YouTube, but prices for cable keep rising.

You might need a "Mother's Little Helper" to get over the price shock.
