I’m familiar….. love the song….. did t know there was a movie….. much better free on you tube. I will be watching it soon
Thanks for the link
Not the best movie ever made, but I've seen worse. LOL
The song holds a place near and dear to my heart. When it first came out, one of the local radio stations played it each night at 10:00 pm. (I think that was the DJ's smoke break). I would pull the covers over my head with the radio underneath turned down low and listen while I drifted off to sleep. Even to this day, whenever I hear it I get drowsy.
The movie is great & so is the music on it -- Have it on DVD -- Still have most of his LP's --
Just get to look at them now --
got rid of the turntable yrs. ago
What did you get?
Nothin' I had to pay $50 and pick up the garbage.
What were you in for?
Littering...and they all moved away from me on the group W bench...until I said, "and creating a nuisance"...and they all moved back next to me on the group W bench.

I still have the Alice's Restuarant cookbook. An insert has a punch out recording, never played it, but I think it's Arlo talking about the song.
His dad, Woody, was an interesting guy too
When I was a young man, my Buddy Phil would do the vocal part of that song while I played the guitar. He knew the song by heart. Rest in peace Phil.
Absolutely mandatory listening back in '69 when the draft was in full swing and we were all hoping to find a reasonably legal way to avoid going to Viet Nam. I saw Arlo a couple of times in concert and he would usually sing the entire 22 minute's worth at some point. He had a couple of other "story songs" but none as good as Alice's Restaurant.
If you are ever in Stockbridge Ma there is a restaurant that has a sign saying it was formerly Alices restaurant there is also lots of things in the song that are there.

Alice's restauraunt was not called Alice's Restaurant. It was just hers. I have no idea, though, what the name was.

I don’t remember the name now but the sign says it was Alice’s restaurant and we talked to people there who said Arlo goes there occasionally I have a picture of it that I will have to dig up to show you

Alice was the owner, so it WAS Alice's restaurant, but not the name of the business. Read the "prologue" in the link below. Read further and you'll find that the restaurant was actually named "The Back Room."

I play it every Thanksgiving. Sadly, my grandchildren do not (yet?) get “it”
