Having recordings of birds is less messy and less expensive that buying a dozen birds to keep in your house.

When I was growing up, my mom had canaries that sang about all day. She left the cage door open so they could come out and fly about the apartment. They loved singing to Lil Wally on Sunday mornings.
Even brings me to smile when I think back.
For some reason, they did not poop anywhere but in and on the cage floor.

My brother-in-law had birds flying around his house. No problems.

Apparently, I left a rear door of my car open for a bit too long. A bird dropped a direct hit on the interior of the door.
