It's an impasse because Republicans don't want to increase the debt ceiling, but don't want to accept responsibility for not doing so.

When all hell breaks loose, it's going to be the worst thing that ever happened, and subsequent deficit spending to recover from the mess will dwarf what's come before.

Democrats will blame Republicans, and vice versa. But I'll bet the blame will fall more on Republicans.

Should spell the end of the GOP, if there's anything else left.

It is simple really.
Pass it in the senate and FJB sign it and all is well.
The ONLY reason Republicans will get the blame is because that will all the fake news will say and the people will believe the lie like they all did and still do regarding the Russia Russia hoax.

It is simple. Republicans said they would raise the debt ceiling. So do it.

Or attach a bunch of strings, and watch what happens.

I am rooting for disaster.

Democrats with our tax dollars are like drunken sailors in port on payday.

But the 14 says
“”” Section 4. The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law,
“””

And much of the debt ceiling bill passed by the house takes action against items that have already been signed into law by past action.

It seems to me that the house republicans are trying to legislate again that which they did not have enough support to accomplish in the past.

Look, irregardless of WHO is to blame , you just can't keep borrowing.... Doesn't really matter whether a husband or wife is responsible for visa debt limit... At some point you have to STOP spending, cut back, and be responsible.

I thought the Republicans believed in the words of the U.S. Constitution. Section 4 of the 14th Amendment, starts “The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned.” It doesn’t say ‘they can be used as bargaining chips.’ They can bargain over the future; they can change future deficits, but they are Constitutionally required to pay for what they have already agreed to spend.

I totally agree but the place to cut spending is in the 12 annual appropriations bills not here.

Doing it here is like saying I am
Not to going to pay my mortgage now until there is agreement not to spend more next Christmas.

Very public spirited of you, boy. It's great to see the workings of the mind of a liberal America hater exposed.

Stop cherry picking... BOTH sides are responsible. but you DO NOT give a CLEAN spending slate to an almost bankrupt person ! Do YOU try and spend more than your credit card limits ?

Both parties contributed to the increase in spending and decrease in receipts.
I pay for what I have already spent.
That is all the Constitution requires.
