I just updated the firmware of my Nikon Zfc to the latest 1.40 and now my Viltrox lenses will not work or are even recognized by the camera. They work fine on my Z50 and Z6II and worked on the Zfc before the firmware update. So beware anyone with Viltrox lenses before installing the new update.

Viltrox will likely put out a firmware update for the lens shortly. I would check their website.

Hopefully you saved the previous firmware update. If so, you can reinstall it and it will overwrite the current version.

I tried that but apparently you cant go back to an older firmware once the latest update has been installed but thanks for the suggestion. I think Viltrox will eventually come out with an update. I wanted to warn anyone with Viltrox lenses that they might want to wait before installing the update.

I checked their website and its still the same firmware. Thanks. Also the update didnt improve the cameras performance it updated its compatibility.

The dark side of "progress." I thought Nikon was okay with other brands of lenses.

Reverting to older firmware -

Yes, No, Maybe.

It seems that once a new update is announced, the old ones become unavailable. If that's true, the we should keep all the former firmware updates.

Ok, for an update. The old firmware was still available on the Nikon website. I was able to download it and reinstall it in the camera. (the first time I tried it it didn't work). It did reset all my settings in the camera so I had to reset everything in the camera but my Viltrox lenses now work so I am not updating again until that issue is resolved. Thanks everyone for your replies and help. Hope this helps anyone from who was thinking of installing the update and who has some Viltrox lenses.

I've been very slightly tempted to get a Viltrox, but I really don't have the need right now.

I'm all for Sacred Traditions, but not buying things I can't justify; and I am very good at justifying purchases.
