Whew...!! it is humid today. I will mow the grass this evening if it doesn't rain (I'm doing a rain dance where the Better Half won't see me) and I wanted to get a few shots before I mow these little beauties down.
I've included a view of the camera and Do-It-Yourself diffuser that I use for my macro walkabout sessions. It's a large cottage cheese container that I lined with aluminum foil. I cut out the center of the lid leaving only the ring. I placed a piece of white polyester no-rip cloth and stretched it over the end of the container and placed the ring over it to hold it in place. That worked perfectly.
I shoot in manual mode at ISO 200 and an aperture of f/20 between 160 to 1/200 second. The speedlight flash is set to manual and set to 1/8 to 1/4 power duration depending upon the ambient light and how much I want to darken or black out the background.

Excellent set, Gary!
Thanks, UTMike. Sometimes a journey needs to be no further than our doorstep.

Thank you for the recipe got your home-brew diffuser. I go “walk-about” a lot these days… and I don’t even have to walk to do it.🤓 I am really pleased with image three because it evokes memories of my mid-western child hood. Having lived in Arizona the past 18 years I can’t recall the feeling of walking barefoot through a lawn filled with cool grasses and clover, but your image comes closest thing to pure nostalgia. Gracias!

Thanks for stopping by, Jrvinson45. I cut a hole in the bottom of the container to fit snuggly over the head of the flash and it holds on perfectly. The white polyester does a great job of diffusing the flash. I've found that the larger the source of soft light, the better the results. When you look at commercial photography softboxes they are quite large compared to the size of the strobe or speedlight.
I spray-painted the cottage cheese container black to make it look a bit better.

Thanks, Joe. Dandelions are among the most beneficial plants.
Thanks, Bcheary. My rain dance worked so I got a reprieve from mowing the lawn by the higher authority...The Better Half..!
Thanks, Ron. Here's hoping things are going well down there.
