I Went To Best Buy And Bought A Camera

I went to Best Buy to handle some of the cameras I had recently read about and considered buying….one of the Canon R series. I also looked at the Panasonic micro four thirds cameras. I was surprised by how large the Panasonic GH6 actually is….then I handled the Panasonic G100. I liked the small size. I read reviews…sold as a vlogging camera….same sensor as the G9….apparently a very unpopular camera…takes good JPEG’s.

I bought a used Panasonic G100 at MPB for less than $400.

Here is my first post with this camera, with a Panasonic 45-150/F4.0-5.6 lens.

Nice photo! Why is it unpopular? Is the 45~150 a kit lens?

Thank you! It is sold as a kit with a Panasonic 12-32/F3.5-5.6, which I also bought from MPB.

One of the reasons it is unpopular is that it doesn’t have IBIS…and it has issues with vlogging(which I don’t do).

So far, I think it will be a good travel camera. Anyone who is looking for a small, lightweight, camera may want to take a look at this one.

Wow, greate blue herons are really hard to get that close to. I'm surprised he let you get that close. Usually they will fly even within 40 yards. Nice shooting man! Doesn't matter the camera to me on that shot... rpm

Thank you! Yes, I was surprised and happy to see the GBH hanging out on the bridge ahead of me…and he did fly after letting me photograph him.

You are welcome. And, full disclosure, after I bought the used camera, they dropped the price of a new camera, with kit lens, to less than $500. I will keep the used one to avoid the hassle. For anyone interested in this camera, I think that is an attractive deal.

So, should have asked. How far away were you from that heron? And did you have a tripod? ( I'm on the north east side of Houston & we have lots of bayous... been around herons long time. Still. Good gob!

I lived for many years of my life with cameras that had no IBIS. I will be the first one to tell you that IBIS is a great feature. Without IBIS using a slightly higher ISO or a tripod is the answer.
I use Olympus cameras and I use some Panasonic lenses with them. Nothing wrong using a Panasonic camera or lenses and if you are a Leica fan you have some Leica lenses to fit.

The image of the great blue heron is a good one. Good luck with your camera.
