I cancelled my trip to Africa; because United flight 2425 was delayed by over 2 hours. I would have missed my flight to New York etc etc.
I must say that United was great. I got my full refund within a week.
Also they found my luggage and had it FedEx to me in a few days
Now I'm waiting for my travel insurance company to issue refund. They keep asking for more and more information.

Let us know how the insurance works out. I have been buying trip insurance and often wonder how much hassle it would be to actually have a claim.

Glad United refunded your money without problems. Though they did cause you to miss your connection. Did they ever give a reason?

it's a hassle. When I purchased the insurance it was stated as..........cancel for any reason. Now they want data on the flight that had nothing to do with the coverage.

I purchase fully refundable tickets for any reason when I fly United and don't think about it.

Screwed me once, shame on them...not going for twice!

Air Flow is not about the flow of air on the aircraft, it refers to the flow of traffic in the vicinity of the destination airport or the departure airport. An example would be if your destination was to SFO and all of a sudden the capt. comes on says that everyone has to deplane due to air flow in SFO. What this means is that the number of flights landing has been reduced significantly; lest say as an example SFO normally lands 200 flights an hour, then ATC institute's flow control an now the number of flights has been lets say 75 an. This impacts the entire system so every airport that has scheduled airline service will start having delayed/canceled flights depending on crew duty time. These numbers are made up to illustrate the point.

One year my wife and I were returning to SFO through DFW (we had been at Great Wolf Lodge water park with the grandkids) we were all on board and the captain comes on the PA said that everyone has to deplane due to wildfires in northern CA and ATC had instated flow control protocols, we were delayed 1.5 hours. SFO was my final destination and I still had a 1.5 hour drive home in the middle of the night.

This was the only time I was boarded with the veterans. I fly standby and am usually boarded last if there are any seats available and standbys will end up with some of the worse seats possible, usually it is the middle seat in the very back where you can't recline the seat.

So if you are on a flight and see late arrivals boarding 99% of the time they will be standbys, if you see people still in the boarding area they are more then likely standbys that didn't make the flight because there were no seats and they have to wait for the next flight. I have spent up to 10 hours at the airport trying to get on a flight. I have an advantage as a standby and that is I can go on the internal reservation system and book a flight to a less popular destination and then to my final destination, I can also see how many standbys are listed for a particular flight and can start considering plan B. All standbys that don't get on a flight is rolled over to the next flight and seniority does count.

By the way I am a lead Line Mechanic (AMT) for United airlines for 35 years.

Travel Guard has always been very reliable and prompt. While you're setting up your trip and calculating how much to insure for, that's the time to itemize and save the documents proving that you're spending the money.
Once you've got that stuff, filing the claim is easy and straightforward.

I had to cancel a trip to Europe this past October. We had trip insurance and it took me 6 months to finally get paid. This was Trip Mate and you can't talk to anyone, everything is emailed back and forth. Terrible experience with this company. I would not use them again.

Hopefully United will be on their best behavior next month. My wife and are going from Pittsburgh to Newark, to San Francisco to Honolulu for our 50th. Say some travel prayers for us, please.
