Can't open attachments in AOL

Over a month ago I ended up having to get a new Lenovo desktop computer and I've had to work through learning and using Win 10. I don't know when this happened, but a few days ago someone sent me an email with a video attachment and I couldn't open it. Then I got an email with a .doc attachment and couldn't open it. .docx won't open, either. Can't open .jpg or .jpeg attachments, but I can open .pdf files if they are attached. I have Word 2016 so there is a program to open the .doc and .docx in. I have Windows Media so that should open the .jpg and .jpeg files, but they won't open. I'm running Firefox as a browser. I've looked on line to see if I could find a resolution to this problem, but the explanations involved messing around with anti-virus programs and THAT I do not want to get into. I don't know whether this is an AOL problem or what. Any ideas out there?

Hello
For your docx means it's Office 365 format. The older format is an office which is all doc files. So the person that sent you the file docx means they are your Office 365 and you may not have the newer office installed on your PC.
1. Do you have the Ms Office Suite installed on your PC Yes or No (Address that question)
2. Video attachment, would help to know what format you can google the extension and it should tell you the format. mpeg, etc
3. Windows Media is more for opening video files.
4. You can use various apps for jpeg and jpg files. Here is a good one to use; you can download it for free.

4A. You mention you have Ofice 2016 installed if so, you should be able to open those files. Open your Office 2016 and then save the file to your doc folder or desktop and from with your Word 2016, do file open and open the file from your desktop, depending on where you saved the file that was sent to you.

I have an AOL e mail account and I have Office 365. I can open .docx files with no issue.

1. many issues are solved by rebooting.

2. Try a different browser. Firefox and Google work fine for me. Also check browser settings for downloads.

2. Check the default apps for your computer. Select files by type. Look to see that .doc and .dotx are set to open with word. You could also just download the file and open later.

3. If you don't have a current copy of office down load Open office or Libre office. These will open office files and are free.
