Hi fellow snappers...
Hi, I've been watching the site in the background for a while now and people on here have inspired me to have a go at photography so here goes.....
I live in Dudley in the West Midlands of the UK and have done so since birth. I worked for Local Government for 25 years until early retirement due to ill health. (heart and lung problems etc..etc...) I have been totally depressed sitting at home watching daytime tv every day (who wouldn'd be!!!).... so I thought that I would buy a camera and create a few "masterpieces" of my own... I always thought photography was in inexpensive hobby until I went to buy a camera!!! Anyhow after much deliberation I settled on a old Nikon d100 selling pretty cheap on a well known website, with the idea that if it didn't awaken my creative juices I could at least sell it again without loosing too much cash.... Anyhow today has been my first day out with my trusty camera.... Let me know what you think of my efforts....

"The geese have landed"
Boats and a tree!!
Hi & Welcolme
1st attempts with camera not bad.
Picture 1, I would zoom out a little or stand further back to possibly include a bit of the gardens.
Picture 2, birds are a bit dark hard to see where you are focused a bit of exposure compensation would see the picture brighter. As your experiance grows you will concentrate on fewer birds or try capturing one bird as it lands on the water.
Picture 3, nice composition I would try making the foreground a little brighter in post processing but keep the tree as a silhouette.
But hey they are just my first thoughts it is what effect you were after that counts.
Hi dave and thank you for your welcome... I very much appreciate your comments and observations.. being a newbie to cameras i am on a steep learning curve. I suppose that photography is similar to other art forms in that it is about perspective and opinion..
Thank you once again..
Kind regards kev
PS on photo 2 i saw the birds out of the corner of my eye so i spun round and quickly took the photo... I will have a play with it post processing...
Hi big ed, nice to have you here, good shots and I understand that #2 was a quick grab, but it would benefit from having the horizon straightened (IMHO). Look forward to seeing more of your work.
Welcome to the site, enjoy yourself.

Hi Kev. Welcome to the site from an ex Stourbridge lad. (lived there from '67 to '88.)
You will enjoy this site. There are lots of great folks willing to assist you as you move through the photography universe.
Good start with your first pics.
Hi Dundeelad, nice to hear from a fellow black country lad.... You wouldn't recognise Stourbridge now, so much has changed... I will pop over to stourbridge in the next few day take a few shots and post them on the site..

Hi Big Ed, A very welcome to the hog. It doesnt matter what camera you have. How you use it determines how your shots will come out. YOU are the guiding force behind the lens. and from what i see you will do OK. Now that being said, pic 1 needs a little more contrast. but perfect otherwise.
Pic 2 when you are shooting a water scene, make sure the horizon line is level and not slanted to the left or right.
Pic 3 Excellent. Keep shooting.
Rich.....
