More of the iron ore loading dock

A few days ago I posted an image of an abandoned iron ore loading pier in Marquette, MI, taken 23 years ago. This is another photo I took from the other side of the pier, giving a better view of the wooden structure that was in place at that time.

Wonderful structure, good shots. Those old, heavy duty structures are always interesting. Rough sawn timbers, bolted together, braced and cross braced. A lot of engineering and sweat combined. Thanks for posting.

Thanks Jack. The structure had four sets of RR tracks leading to the top for trains carrying very heavy loads of iron ore to be dumped. They had to be extremely strong and rigid.
