A friend told me about neighbors of hers who pay under $10 a year in property taxes - and they live in houses! My taxes keep rising.
We have a NYC reservoir in our town. NYC owns about 70% of the town, so it should pay most of the taxes, but a lawsuit years ago got them out of it. There is so much land that no one can use for homes or businesses - and pay taxes. The bill is divided among the relatively few residents.
Al Capone was a known head of a criminal empire responsible for many murders which he was able to get away with and eventually was locked away for tax evasion. It goes to show that one can get away with murder, however, one can never get away from paying taxes..!😜
Our taxes in Texas have gone up so much it is ridiculous. I am not worried about my home for a have a homestead examination and after I hit 65 in my town the taxes are dropped and frozen even if the property value goes up.my problem is a 25x52 mobile home I bought 7 years ago at a park for $28,000 cash for my son to live in and the taxes went up to $39,000 in 2021.now they went to $92,000.hell with $92,000 1 can buy a brand new one.mine is a 2005 model. I do have a may 15th appointment with the review board.
A little know fact about tax offices in Texas. Property is assessed by the Tax Asser Office; but there is a little salvation, there are master assessors who's assessment properties. Their assents will over rule any standard assessment of a property.
Few County Tax offices have a Master Assessor, but it can happen.
So, there are a rare breed call Senior Master Appraisers, their assessment can only be challenged by another Senior Master Appraisers and these people are about as scares as 'hens teeth'.
I'm getting one (a Senior Master Appraisers*) to review my property taxes for Bexar County, the odious tax man has increased my tax base in two years by 475%! Lick for me my building is grandfather in as both residential and commercial.
*Senior Master Appraisers are noted for doing mostly commercial properties. Their appraisel are locked in for 5 to 7 years, and will cost about $5,000.

Unfortunately, humanity will never have fair taxes. We got by for hundreds of years without sales tax. We started at 2% in about 1963. It's up to 8% now, including any prepared food.
