Help with two images please.
Fellow Hoggers.
I am reaching out to the 99 percent members who are smarter than me for a some help, assistance, comments, tips, etc. For a very heart felt issue I am having with two photos I want to try and improve on.
I do have the Adobe subscription and used Light Room to auto adjust but the de noise feature will not work because it tells me the photo format is not compatible.
I tried Photoshop, no luck there. I am not very learned in Photoshop because I have yet to need it's features and Light Room I mostly use the auto adjust with sometimes tweaks with the other adjustments.
Now, the reason for this. These are two selfies she took of herself just this past year with a cell phone and her sister sent them to me. So, what I had of her recently was lost do to a computer problem.
She passed away Sunday night March 5th in her sleep.
She was my very best friend and confidant. We worked together in the past and became lovers and roommates for a few years before she moved to Pensacola. We were still joined as life time friends and closer even though the physical lover part had past.
These pictures mean so very much to me. Is there anyone here on the HOGG forum who improve on these two images PLEASE.
I want to print and share with our close friends as a memory of her as she was just before passing.
Again, ANY help is greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading all of this.
I think these two are the originals as sent to me via email

There's probably some clever AI that can get rid of the reflections in the glasses better than I did. Anyway, here's another to consider.
.
I have been curious about these you mentioned and I thank you for the link. I am going to check it out I do want to be honest so I pay the monthly fee for what I hardly use.
Thanks again.

How is this
WOW thank you so much. What did you use to get these results ? I am not that sharp with Light Room or even photoshop but I realized I had hit the proverbial brick wall.
I had a reply to drop Adobe and get Topaz.
Again,Thank you so much.

Whatever you did I very much appreciate because it looks good to me. This time you guys took means so much to me. She is very missed by me and her close friends.
My gracious thanks to you. Did you use LR ? or something else because I am in a learning curve of something like this which I have not had to do before.
Thank you again for your time and expertise.

Thank you Mr. Hoffman so very much. This means so much to me the the ones who loved her. I like the effect that focuses her face and shades the edges. This is very lovely. Yours and the others the members did printed out very beautifully and I will be sending copies to them and of course for me too.
I cannot thank you and the others so much how much this special request and what you all did for me how much this means to me.
I do not know how you did this but I sure have much to learn about processing since I have not had a issue like this before. It means so much to.
Gods blessings to you all for your time and expertise.
Thank you again, so appreciated.
Bruce.
Glad I could do it for you.

....Did you use LR ? ...
You're welcome. Yes, Lr with a lot of brushwork. There are no magic global adjustments that will work with this type of shot. Selecting the problem areas and giving them the adjustments they need is what's required.
She's a beautiful lady. Just a little noise reduction is all that's needed IMO.

Retouching like this is always very subjective. How far do you go? How much do you change the picture? What did she really look like and this is a good representation? All questions you have to ask when you start.
As far as Photoshop, Lightroom, Paintshop Pro and all the rest, that's your decision. Just remember that the learning curve is still there whichever one you choose to go with, whether it's PSP, Affinity Photo, the GIMP, or any other. I would personally never be without Photoshop's superior tools and Adobe's vast resources, but I have many years invested in it. I have tried all the others, and $10 a month is just fine with me to get the best there is.
Also, I would recommend that if you must have Topaz, to get Photo AI and skip the awful Denoise and Sharpen programs which have never worked well and still don't. Photo AI is an all-in-one, and doesn't leave as many hideous artifacts as the others. I would still use it sparingly unless you're really in love with the cartoonish AI look.
