Hello. My relative has a Nikon Coolpix 1000 with the lens cap stuck. He is in a nursing facility in Virginia. With the lack of photo repair shops, options are few. Any ideas? Thanks

Does the lens cap slide over the end of the lens barrel? It doesn’t sound like a lens cap that fits inside the filter threads using a small spring to wedge the edge outward against the lens’ filter threads. My thought is that he may have his lens cap on crooked — particularly if it is the type of lens cap that slides over the end of the barrel. Perhaps some light tapping with a piece of wood across the cap, and then lightly tap the wood with a hammer — not too hard! That might get the cap to “even-up” on the lens barrel where it will properly slide off. Another option may be to use the wooden board to push against the end and edge of the lens cap and push it off the lens barrel. Don’t get too rough with things!
I know you said lens cap, but could you mean a stuck filter? I've never seen a stuck lens cap. If a filter, you could get a very inexpensive set of filter wrenches* via Amazon. If it's a stuck lens cap, maybe upload a photo of it?

IFF the lens cap is like that on the Coolpix P900, the cap mechanism is external. it MAY just be a matter of finger strength to use when pinching the center parts. It MAY be that there is some gunk on those parts from sticky fingers and a toothpick can reduce it. It MAY be that you can hold it against something warm will soften some gunk.
