Enable the Older GPU Mode option in Preferences > Technology Previews > “Use Older GPU Mode (pre 2016)"
Had the same problem. This worked for me on my 6 year old computer.

When we went to the computer store and "bought" packaged software, we were really just paying for a license and all of the distribution costs of manuals and discs. Now, all manuals are online, either in the Help menu or as downloadable PDF files. The license is either perpetual FOR ONE VERSION of the software, or an ongoing subscription.

Burkphoto makes good points. None of the software being discussed on this thread is owned by any of the users. If you pay one fee it is a perpetual license for one version. I do not understand the practical or philosophical objections to the subscription model of software licensing. I worked for many years for a company that developed and licensed software. All of the licenses were subscriptions.

I have older copies of Photoshop and lightroom. They are stand alone programs and I own them. My latest gripe is the new "subscription" concept. Now you can't own software you must "rent" it via on going subscription fees.

The plus is that updates are automatic buy you must be connected to the internet to use it.

Personally, I preferred to purchase for a one time fee and "update" if the newer version gave me something I didn't have but would use.

Plus, I could take anywhere.

What if I wanted to hike up to a remote cabin on camp out in a tent in the mountains. There may or may not have internet. What good is the program then

You do not have to be on the Internet to use Photoshop or Lightroom once downloaded. You only have to be on the Internet once in a while to get updates. And to make sure that your subscription is still active. You can actually quit LR and still have access to certain elements. You really might want to get your facts straight.

That is indeed a relevant question.

Before switching software, it would be a good idea to make sure your COMPUTER isn't what's causing this issue. If that's what is at fault, then switching to another piece of software may bring out even more problems than what you're trying to solve.

Now, if you're not comfortable servicing your own machine, yes, paying someone who does that may be necessary.

But you said you quit. Now you went and dashed some people's hopes. (Not mine, I don't care).

Any suggestions for replacement software?

Affinity Photo. Does everything Photoshop and Lightroom does except act as a catalog. Which I have the intelligence to do on my own. And it's on sale a lot and even if it's not it's cheaper than a year of the other.

LR IS a cataloging program and light retouching. So indeed Affinity Photo does not do everything that LR does. Just saying.

I know people who do their own cataloging and it works for them and that's great. Nothing wrong with that. Do you use a database program? How do you manage keyboarding and ratings, etc?

Someone stated, " Layers not available on LR". I do not know if it is or not.

But I do know ON1 RAW 2023.1 has a fantastic AI layer features with a broad list selection.
Which just makes it easy to change almost any subject/object in a picture. Just Click twice and you able to open untold number of features and adjustments. Plus you can just go to layers in the edit module.
ON1 is Filter/Effects rich in making post processing fun. The editing screen layout just makes sense.

On1 has a very easy method to store your pictures and photos. Or you can just select frames from numerous input sources and be editing in seconds. There is no special steps for editing.

ON1 RAW 2023.1, really has made my life a joy to edit and create images to my liking. Then store them "my way"

Aammat

I wholly agree with others on this site that Adobe offers one of the finest help support systems you can find from any software company. My 1st option is always to use the chatbox

I would suggest that you log in to your Adobe cloud account, and initiate a chat with one of their technical individuals, and if necessary they have the full capability of logging into your system, and looking at what you have to give you much better options and a better results.

As for me,I had a problem last month with a corrupt catalog. As a computer geek, did everything I knew to try to fix it and could not. But I used the chat option, and within 10 minutes, the problem was fixed.

I am a Beta tester for a number of other softwares, and I can tell you that Adobe is the Premier software currently on the market.

In closing, The Choice is yours and yes you have to make the final decision. I wish you well my friend

Cheers

I wonder if it was always that way, or if some clever guy thought of a way to sell it but still let the company maintain ownership. Unfortunately, that's extending to all sorts of actual, physical items now. Want to fix your Ford or your John Deere? That might not be possible.
