Looks like a new pro lens with a great 3X zoom range and f2.8.
What do you think?
"THIS MIGHT BE THE UPCOMING RF 100-300MM F2.8L IS LENS
April 17, 2023"
"We know Canon will soon announce the RF 100-300mm F2.8L IS, as a recent rumor suggests.
Now we have what most likely is an image of the RF 100-300mm F2.8L IS lens. See on top.
We thinks the image is real and not fake. This is going to be a rather expensive lens; rumor has it somewhat shy of $10,000."

Seems Canon's industry leadership position is much less at risk than some fanboyz advertise nearly daily.

Sez one fanboy to another.
True. People like to attack Canon but they are the unquestioned leader in optics.

I sure wish they would get with the program and have a 400mm f2.8 with built in 1.4. Also on my wish list zebras in I guess I would call it live view like Olympus and Sony. See zebras before taking the photo. I have a hard time always seeing that tinny bit of white to the far right of the histogram…. This 100-300 with built in 1.4 would be nice…. Just my wish list, but they don’t ask me….

They are noting your wish list carefully and will most likely provide those wishes in the MII versions.
Actually who knows?
Does it come with a wheelbarrow to move it around? That range and speed spell weight!
I see it primarily as a studio lens.
FYI, Sigma has had a 120-300mm f2.8 lens for Canon EF mount for many years. I know many Canon pro-sports shooters that have used it with great success.

Canon is the leader for Canon RF lenses. And Sigma, Tamron have made excellent and innovative lenses for Canon EF. I know that for a fact as I owned many of those, alongside my extensive Canon EF lens collection over four+ decades as a Canon pro shooter.
Nikon, Sony, Leica, Panasonic, OM-system make glass as excellent in image quality and innovation for their respective makes.. Canon has no monopoly on great glass, just a fact.
And Sigma, Tamron, Samyang/Rokinon, Zeiss, Tokina, Viltrox, Meike all make excellent third-party glass for Sony, Leica, Nikon, Panasonic, OM-system, and Sigma cameras. And Meike is making a new Canon-authorized 85mm f1.4 lens for RF mount.
Lots of great and innovative glass in all focal lengths out there from different makers.
Cheers and best to you all.

This telephoto zoom lens is ideal for professionals who use a Canon EOS R3, EOS R5 or EOS R6 Mark II full-frame mirrorless camera, but can also be a catalyst for users who have developed into serious, aspirational enthusiasts and are looking to step beyond their traditional telephoto lens experience. Best use cases include, but are not limited to, indoor sports, motorsports, outdoor fashion, video and cinema, photojournalism and theater work. For high-level shooters and videographers particularly working in low-light settings and seeking a hand-holdable solution, this lens provides the total answer.

I shoot wildlife with both the manual focus FD 300 f/2.8L and the EF 300 f/2.8L IS II, used copies of lenses at 1/4 to 1/2 the cost of this brand new native RF mount zoom. The lenses work great with extenders, a likely similar feature of this RF zoom. There are no limits of the 300mm focal length, except when you actually need 500mm or 600mm and then extenders. But, those lenses, with the fastest apertures, also get you into the same $10K range. My point: this lens is potentially a perfect tool, coming with the new price of such perfection. With an initial (premium) price, that may change over time, both for new and used copies for a piece of equipment that should last the rest of the natural lifetime of the customer.
Seems the USA price will be $9500 USD
This lens seems to be oriented at folks who can write it off or the very well healed few who won’t blink at buying a $10,000 lens. For many of the rest of us an ef 70-300 with/without an adapter will have to suffice. No wonder Canon is banning third party lenses - from Sigma or Tamron this focal range would probably not touch 5K.

The lens also works with both the 1.4X and 2X teleconverters with NO loss of IQ according to Canon
