The mass homicide rate in this country is far above any other developed country in the world.
That being the case, one must look for the answer to the question, "What is different about the United States?"
The answer is very clear. There are now more guns than people in this country and the laws, because they are made by the states are inconsistent at best and idiotic at worst.
Currently, you can conceal carry a firearm in Florida with no training, no background check, and no red flag laws.
We need to address the gun problem. Yes, I said gun problem. I know the wingers on this site will tell you it's a people problem and I agree. We need to change the law so that we keep guns away from people who should not have them.
This not only includes AR-type weapons, but handguns as well.
Or, we can just bury our children when they're slayed in classrooms, shopping malls, parks, and movie theaters.
Which is the lesser of two evils?

Nothing wrong with what you said Frank other than the left's obsession on AR styled rifles, if the AR styled weapons were taken away it would be semi-automatic pistols with extended clips the shooter having multiple clips packed into his vest.

Rifles which include AR styled rifles account for a small fraction of homicide in the US.

What is wrong with taking that step even if it's smaller than liberals hope for and can defend with results previously seen?

My original question was
“ what would you do?”

Not what you think about others answer. A cop out !

Put a federal tax on handguns and all semi-automatics equal to the amount of their purchase.

Make the use of any gun in a way not covered by the 2nd Amendment a crime punishable by appropriate jail time or heavy fine. The user should give up all his guns for an extended period as well, like ten years. Note: My neighbor pointed a gun at some kids because they were bothering him late at night. He should have been arrested and seen some jail time.

Those are two suggestions. I've mentioned the second one before in the Attic but it hasn't gotten much traction.

Please show me the results, I think that the so called results that Biden brags about are a myth. Do a bit of research on FBI statistics then lets talk about it. I am not a gun owner so I don't really have a dog in the fight so to speak but I have taken a look at the issue and the liberal stance is not realistic.

But it didn’t work last time. Crime was already going down. The public is bludgeoned so often with the ‘scary looking rifle’ that they begin to believe its evil incarnate. All the hype also serves to inflame the crazies who have murder in their hearts.

No I don’t own one. Just sayin’. People are ruled by emotion on this topic

1. Background checks
2. Red Flag Laws
3. Concealed carry licenses, requiring training, and background check
4. Mandatory jail time for illegal possession of a weapon.
5. Mandatory jail time for possessing a firearm while committing a crime.
6. Mandatory jail time for weapon possession in a prohibited area.
7. Ten-day waiting period to buy a firearm.
8. Let's start with these and then we'll build on them.

Because it would violate the 2nd Amendment, much the same way as poll taxes did to voters. The Supreme Court has long held that rights can't be infringed by charging citizens to exercise those rights. The 11% Pittman-Robertson Excise tax on guns, ammunition, and archery is an exception, but the proceeds for that tax are limited to spending on wildlife preservation.

That said, states can and do charge sales taxes as with any other commodity. However, they could not establish a punitive tax.

The idea that folks should have to serve mandatory jail time for illegal use of guns is good. However, there are too many prosecutors out in the hustings who plead down gun crimes to misdemeanors. To wit: The murderer at Michigan State had an earlier felony pled down to a misdemeanor.

Maybe you should have a conversation with Bragg. He certainly is not enforcing the laws already on the books regarding crime and guns.

Why is putting restrictions on killing “abortion” the unborn is deemed by Democrats as violated women’s Constitutional “right” to abortions but restricting rights to own guns is not? In the Lefts mind of course. Should we also implement a type of “red flag law” on those that want to abort their unborn child as well?
