Beats me. I looked at the larger image as well. I think it's a cross between Albert Einstein and Woodstock, that little bird who's a friend of Snoopy.
I think it looks like an aged Yosemite Sam. I do see the Einstein resemblance.

Considering where I captured this critter and taking into consideration the time of year, I believe him to be correct.
I hadn't been playing an identification game. Other than seeing it as the part of a plant, I had no idea what it was
