Warranty Question

Hate to admit to being dumb but.......bought a new Canon T3i that came with a blank warranty. There was no model number or body number on the warranty. Does anyone know if that is required by Canon? I have found that Daxsmart is a ripoff. I was supposed to get an extra Long Life Battery that didn't come with the camera so I called and finally got one. It arrived in the US prior to being shipped to me. It is not a canon battery. Should I use it or for that matter let them by with that? Did I get ripped off on the warranty, anybody know. Thanks

Is Daxsmart some kind of online company? I have never heard of them before. Was the price you got your camera for too good to be true? If so you may have gotten a grey market camera which is not covered by a U.S. warranty.

No, I didn't get grey market. It has T3i on the outside of the camera and not 1100D or Kiss. Yes, I got it off of the Internet. My first clue should have been no itemized bill of what I bought. Just a total. I'm learning. I did get a blank warranty card and any warranty cards I have gotten before from Canon have had the numbers written in already. This card is blank. They are real con artists. Buy one battery and get a second free. Well, body only usually comes with a battery. They counted that as one battery so the second one your really paying full price for. I called and they said they would send me one. Well, they did. After several phone calls and when they said they sent it and it was on the way. After a few more calls i asked for a tracking number which they said they had. They said they would call back with it. Not so. Finally I called and insisted on getting a tracking number. I got it and found that it had hit the shores of the USA in California and was on it's way. It was not a Canon battery. Probably one that isn't worth the shipping paid for it. I am not going to bother with it any further. To upset about the warranty and to much time and effort for such a small price. They lead you to believe that you are getting "Much better extra's" NOT SO. Very slick sales people. I really am concerned about the warranty though. Having had good fortune with my previous Canon xti nothing will probably go wrong. I just want to know if it is a good warranty.

Should have gone to Daxmart reviews. Feel pretty stupid on this one. Should have done that before I bought.

Caveat Emptor...Let the buyer beware. Think you're out of luck on the warranty.

I might be wrong - I think I was once before, but don't hold me to that - but in many cases, all you need for warranty work is the item and a valid receipt. Most of my warranty cards say to hold them until I need service, and they all emphasize the importance of having a receipt.

Can you register online with Canon? That should be all you have to do. That's all I've ever done with Nikon. I once unknowingly bought a graymarket camera, and the Nikon site came up with "Invalid serial number."

Let us know how this turns out.

Hi Jerry

You always come to the rescue, thanks. I will go in and register and pray if something goes wrong I'm covered. I did find out that if you bought a Canon from Ebay it isn't covered. Didn't know that either. What I'm finding is these "shady" places try to make money on accessories and mislead on how much they are worth and what they actually are. Their prices are cheap but don't tell you in the ad that it's Grey Mkt. Much better off dealing with B & H or other reputable dealers. Big sign of problems when your return receipt doesn't list the accessories just puts in total of the bill. I'm paying my dues.

Take the money and get product out the door. That's the game they play, and they usually win. Warnings like yours help to even the playing field.

I've learned the hard way, too. It's more fun to learn the easy way!
Before I shop for an item (cameras, pool cues, guns) I shop for the vender I want to purchase from. In one case my chosen vender did not immediately have the item I wanted (H&K-91) so I just waited until they did. I've never been sorry about the wait.
Cameras=B&H, Adorama, KEH. Ebay or Amazon it I know the vender.

I registered it last night. Hopefully that works. I must have made a mistake because Canon thanked me for registering my 5D with them. Will call Canon today to correct that. I sure appreciate you telling me that. I would return the whole works but would probably have to fight to get my money back. They indicated that the batteries I was getting were much better than the ones that come with the camera (feeling stupid). Not So. They also indicated that the memory cards were upgraded. Not so. I went for a ride no doubt. I also got a few other things that were supposed to cost x number of dollars. NOT SO. No itemized bill. Just a bad deal. I'm the dummy that went for it. Soooo........will do reviews on these guys. They have now changed their name to Seaview.

I bought a few other things besides the camera and didn't get an itemized bill. First sign that something is bad wrong. I don't know how to break it down now. Didn't get what I was supposed to get. Just a bad deal.

Well, you have to decide if what you got was worth what you paid. If the answer is yes, then you're OK. An itemized receipt is not as important as having the stuff. :D
