Wow, what a great series. All those raptors but I like the Golden-crowned Sparrow

Thank you all for the very kind thoughts. These raptors are mostly from the Wood River Valley. There was also a Ferruginous Hawk that day. Somebody on a raptor survey said there were also Swainson's Hawks which we didn't see. Throw in a Bald eagle and a Great Horned Owl and you have quite a collection. Oh yes, there were 30 Rough-legged. And how can I forget the badger.

I went to K falls almost every Thanksgiving while I lived in California. I heard the drought hit the Klamath Valley hard. How are the water levels in the valley now.

It's been dry for two years. This year we have had considerable rain and there's a goodly amount of water, though not all the refuges have water. The lower refuge is still pretty dry and some of the sumps in Tule Lake are dry. A lot of the fields between Klamath Falls and the lower refuge are flooded. We saw 40 Bald Eagles in one spot feasting on the rodents being driven out of the ground by the flooded fields. All in all it's much better than it has been.

Wow! Wow! Wow! The Hawk is great, the Badger is absolutely killer! I've only seen one in the wild, no photos!

There's still time to enjoy the raptors, waterfowl, and passerines that abound in the Wood River Valley, roads south of Klamath Falls, and Miller Island. Here's a few.

Wonderful images Marty.

I grew up in Klamath Falls and know the location of many of the places mentioned.

Thanks Retired. Our first photo of the badger. Also the first we’ve seen in that valley. I know where he lives now.

My family is pretty much gone as is my wife's who is from Yreka so we no longer make the annual trip to K Falls and Yreka, but when we did , we always went down Lower Klamath to the bird refuge as part of our trip. I'll see if I can find a photo of the dried lower Klamath lake I shot during the draught some years ago.

Here's an image of geese in flight on the State line road.
