Spring Flowers. Ugly Name, Pretty Blooms

A couple of years ago I decided to add some color to my small front yard, so I planted some Pulmonaria, also known as "lungwort." They are named for their varied leaf patterns, which some liken to spotted lungs (the root, "pulmonary" refers to the lungs). What impresses me however, are the flowers, which are both pink and blue. This is an early blooming flower (take that, you Daffodils and Crocuses), so with the one-day-winter-one-day-spring weather we've been having, it's a sign that we're about to have a change of seasons (today in the northern hemisphere is, in fact, the Vernal Equinox). I will cut them back as the blooms fade. They are hardy plants (I thought I lost two of them last year and replaced them with other blooms. Those didn't take, and this year, the Pulmonaria are staging a comeback!)
