Where did the junk mail go?

I noticed the last few days that I got only one or two pieces of junk mail in the junk mail folder. I got all the usual mail, including of course, a couple of bills. On the internet today I found a couple of sites where this topic was discussed, but they were years ago.

I'm not complaining, just wondering if anyone else noticed this.

Lately I have noticed a distinct drop-off to receiving virtually no junk mail on weekends and holidays. But today, Monday, the spam folder has been filling up with casino offers, male enhancement product ads, car warranties and even a phishing attempt from "At your earlier convenience kindly acknowledge a Termination Mail Case ID: SSA-96144386
Kind regards
Social Security Administrator
Baltimore-USA" (Sent from some clown with a Gmail address.)

Maybe the junk email chop shops are working 4-day weeks and have a staffing shortage, but they are still cranking them out.

I have my email through AT&T, and is filtered through Yahoo!. The amount of crap email that gets to Outlook is minimal. When one does get through, I just add it to my "blocked" addresses.

Bill, I must be getting yours along with mine. In particular I have been getting "opournities" to take a quick survey and then qualify for one of a choice of items for only a small postage. The items and cost are inviting, however I haven't taken the bait. Just wondering if others are receiving similar email offers and any outcome.

I really do think the browser one uses and the email provider and the security both offer has a big bearing on the amount of spam one gets.

We have 2 ipads and 2 laptops in our house.
We used to get a lot of spam and my wife was getting the blue screen of near death at times. We tracked that problem down to her visiting embroidery and shopping sites with poor security.

We changed our emails to Gmail and our browsers to Firefox some years ago and since then the spam we receive has dropped to virtually nothing. (well it still comes but automatically goes into a 'Spam' folder which is auto emptied every 30 days with the option I selected).
Very rarely I find an email I want in the Spam folder but only look in there if an email Ive been waiting for hasn't turned up in my Inbox.
Many of the sites that my wife was visiting now come up with a warning that they aren't secure and she gets the option to go back and not proceed.

Not "secure" simply means that they are not using SSL (Secure Socket Layer), aka https: as opposed to plain http:. It just means that the data sent may be seen by others. NOT that it's a "bad" site.
Norton will warn of "possible" malicious sites, which MAY even use the https: protocol.

Gmail is so picky that it might even block/flag legitimate emails. I've seen that happen.

This morning things are back to normal. Four in my inbox (2 are junk) and two in my junk folder.

Yes.
Comcast has them also, as well as my website control panel.
Love filters!
