Can anyone recommend places to intelligently discuss politics and current events where various opinions are respectfully expressed and tolerated? The Attic has devolved into such a mess.

Because libs like davieO, Tex and Krack first response to any intelligent post is a vicious derogatory personal attack unrelated to the post and then throw in a but Trump comment in the middle and absolutely refuse to respond to the post with any relevant comments.
Or at times say that it is from Fox thus is false even though it is a live event and video being recorded in real time.
