Interesting! Are the landing strips right on lake ice? Notice most of the aircraft are on wheels.

The ice is plowed of snow for the event so wheeled planes can operate, ski planes and those with bush wheels can operate on snow. The big lake has a plowed road system during the winter so ice fishing houses can be accessed by vehicles. These houses are removed at the end of the Walleye and Northern Pike fishing season and the roads are touched up for airplane use for this fly in. This event occurred at Mac"s Twin Bay Resort.

How cool is that?! Not something you see much farther south!
Wheels, skis, skids, snow machines and ATV's all coming together for fun!! Do they have vendors on the ice for food and drink?

Very nice set! And I thought it was just snow machines and ice fishing up there.

How thick does the ice have to be to support the weight of those planes? I see several that should go over 5000 lbs.
