Note: The above condition evaluation (Excellent Plus) is based on my own judgment and nine years experience using the Nikkor on commercial assignments. Please examine the included photos carefully since most are at a high resolution far greater than what an unaided eye can discern. Internal Optics recently examined with a Nurse's Pupil Gauge light (no haze, fungus, scratches, or excessive dust etc) crystal clear glass.
The Zoom Mechanism in absolutely MINT! Firm and will not fall under it's own weight yet has perfect constant resistance throughout it's entire zoom range, a joy to use... This lens has been deployed in a studio exclusively for the past nine years and stored in a climate controlled environment.
Who is this AF 80-200mm f2.8 ED Nikkor ideal for?
Portrait Photographers (See Example BTS (behind the scenes image))
Legendary Nikkor: Optical performance is exceptional! Image Quality of results are impeccable.
This epic Portrait Lens works well both in Studio and for Stage/Concerts scenarios.
Considering it's asking price point there isn't much else available by Nikon that works as well.
For less than a "Nifty Fifty" you get prime lens quality in a Pro Grade Build.
Nikon's 80-200mm f2,8 Nikkors typically outlast the cameras they are mounted on by many years.
Note: It can work fairly well for outdoor sports with careful deployment of it's 3 stage Focus Limiter.
For portraits Depth of Field and Build Quality make this lens a definite leader in the Nikkor line-up.
BTW, decades later this lens and one of it's little sisters (the AF 35-135mm f/3.5-4.5) Push-Pull variant are still outstanding Nikon "budget" portrait lenses options.
This is primarily a Portrait Lens for Studio and Stage Events (Concerts & Fashion Catwalk etc.)
Not for Adverse Weather Events (It's not completely weathered sealed)
Not for Wildlife (Especially BIF) nor Indoor Sporting Events (focus speed is slow even with Limiter.)
* Important! Requires a Nikon Camera with Screwdriver motor for AF (manual focus otherwise)
* This variant is NOT a "D" version as such can only be used with Nikon CLS in iTTL (Not iTTL-BL)
* (The high resolution BTS example was taken with Nikon CLS in iTTL using the Focus Limiter)
However it is the ONLY Pro version AF 80-200mm f/2.8 with a robust sliding Metal Limiter Switch (Not the Plastic Switch notoriously prone to failure) which can be a major problem since Nikon no longer services those variants leaving repair of this Plastic Limiter Switch to third party providers only.
Or with as one gifted UHH member's workaround (JB Weld epoxy) kludge repair. Thanks Gene for this tip
BTW: This 80-200mm variant's Limiter has Four Separate Settings: (3m 10ft - M; FULL; ∞-3m 10ft; ∞-5m 15ft)
Why is my 80-200mm f/2.8 now up for sale?
Weight: I'm now limited to Studio Work primarily with much lighter primes.
Fortunately I recently acquired Nikon's f/4G variant from another UHH member (1/2 the weigh)
Note: Since there are over a half dozen 80-200mm f/2.8; f/4 and f/3.5-4.5 variants of this lens I've included KEH's selections of this exact Nikkor and have priced this Lens accordingly at a competitive price point.
Like KEH I will allow return within 14 days of delivery if it doesn't meet and/or expectations.
This Nikkor is really that good.
As with all Photo Kit I sell here on UHH I offer after sales support to assure you can/will obtain the superb results this Legendary Nikkor is capable of. Caveat: A few Nikon "Screwdriver" Bodies lack AF Fine Tune: Example the Nikon D90 etc. As such they are not an ideal compliment for this Nikkor (i.e. not recommended).
Questions and/or Concerns? Please PM me thru the UHH messaging system... Thank you.
