Yes. And that study was pointing out that not wearing one, or not wearing it properly, is what leads to the conclusion that masks are ineffective.

Wearing masks actually kept others safe.

That too. And even more so. Which is the part that shows how inconsiderate the anti-maskers are.

"“There is just no evidence that they” — masks — “make any difference,” he told the journalist Maryanne Demasi. “Full stop.”

But, wait, hold on. What about N-95 masks, as opposed to lower-quality surgical or cloth masks?

“Makes no difference — none of it,” said Jefferson.

What about the studies that initially persuaded policymakers to impose mask mandates?

“They were convinced by non-randomized studies, flawed observational studies.”

What about the utility of masks in conjunction with other preventive measures, such as hand hygiene, physical distancing or air filtration?

“There’s no evidence that many of these things make any difference.”"

Ah, now that science has spoken, nurses and doctors no longer need to wear masks in the O.R. Masks, afterall, DO NOT prevent the spread of germs or virus.

In the O.R., the body's protective envelope is compromised to perform a medical procedure. Thus, extra safeguards are required to prevent matter, foreign to the interior of the body, from entering. Completely different situation!

Lol. Being in a pandemic is not that much fun, but looking back there was a lot of funny stuff during it. As you so aptly note.
It was world wide and no one seems to be certain anywhere in the world to this very day. Don't forget, they said at the very beginning that a good vaccine takes years to develop and we went right into hyper speed emergency mode.
"Do something, even if it's wrong" is still better than doing nothing. You can be a victim, or you can fight. Everyone fights in their own way.

Ok, so in the OR the body’s protective envelope is compromised, and you agree that extra protection like masks and gowns work. If masks make no difference they would not be needed. You can’t argue both sides of the same point and win both times.

Read the study, and don't listen to so-called pundits who think they can speak for it. The first sentence of the author's conclusions. "The high risk of bias in the trials, variation in outcome measurement, and relatively low adherence with the interventions during the studies hampers drawing firm conclusions."

Thanks...I'll wear a mask.

Bull. If you have a virus and expel it into the air, it can be caught by others. Masks can help prevent that from happening.

Interesting thing, prior to Covid, hospital employees who chose to skip the flu shot could come to work as long as they wore a mask.

For all those of you who think masks do not work, remember to tell your surgeon to save a few bucks and not bother having the team of doctors and nurses put on gowns and masks the next time you are in for major surgery.

Those are to prevent infection and not to prevent the spread of viruses. I saw my cardiologist this week and he said the mask mandates that still exist in Oregon medical settings are bad policy and an abomination. He has his mask down around his chin and has told them that if they don't like it they can fire him and he will just go to a state that has no mask mandates.

He said that he finds it incredible that doctors are acting like sheep and willingly going along with a lie that they all know to be untrue just because they are afraid to stand up and possibly stand out or piss the wrong people off.

The study cited here appears to show that my cardiologist is right.

Actually, he's right. The masks were intended to prevent people from spreading the disease to others, and that would work if everyone wore the masks and wore them correctly. However, it seemed that there were many stupid people out there who thought they didn't need to cover their noses.
As to those with beards, in an O.R. or other healthcare environment, they would be required to wear hoods that completely covered their head, face, and beard.

He's not right. Masks in the O.R. are to prevent infection not to prevent the spread of infectious disease.

What's dumb is that some people are still wearing them and that several of you are still trying to claim that they work even though the data proves they don't.

that's not what the study was pointing out. The study was pointing out that there is no evidence that masks made any difference from not having masks, including among those who wore them "properly."

Are you trying to claim that the study that the New York Times editorial refers to is wrong? Because it isn't. They have known that masks do not work against viruses for at least 25 years.
