I quite often see this when watching videos on Youtube, what causes this vertical view, is it because it was taken on a phone being held vertical rather then sideways...?
The phone was held vertically (portrait) when shot.
I hate, with a passion, when viewers (display applications) ADD the fuzzy MOVING image to the left and right to fill the landscape viewing screen. They should leave it black. (Better to shoot horizontal in most instances.)
A bit strong isn't it for a photographic question? By the way who is it you are talking to? Why would you come across with such a negative attitude when you could have easily just skipped over the entire thread? Did you get up on the wrong side of the bed today? Things not going well for you? Why inject that negativity in this thread. Hell, this isn't even The Attic where such things are tolerated. But not here. I think you owe someone an apology if not the entire group.

Hey guys STOP! A simple question was asked and I, for one, would like to know the answer.
Viewers (display applications) ADD the fuzzy MOVING image to the left and right to fill the landscape viewing screen. SO ANNOYING! I'd rather it be solid black.!

I rather that it fills the screen and I can simply flip the TV 90 degrees.
