Elements 14 and HEIC files

I used Windows One Drive to put some photos from my iPad onto my PC. One was a HEIC file and Elements wouldn’t open it. Surprisingly it opened with the Windows Photos app. So I tapped on Edit, made no edits and saved it as a JPEG. Now I can import it into Elements and be off and running.

One Drive doesn’t have an option to convert HEIC to JPEG on transferring photos like my iPhone does when I connect it to the PC. My iPad doesn’t take photos in JPEG but I have a few HEIC's on it that came from my iPhone.

When dealing with ancient unsupported software like circa 2014 PSE-14, you're going to run into these problems with modern file types.

iMazing provides a free HEIC to JPG converter to address the heic files you already have. It's available for both mac and pc.

To prevent the phone/ipad from saving in heic in the first place, go to: SETTINGS|CAMERA|FORMATS and change the CAMERA CAPTURE settings from 'High Efficiency' to ‘Most Compatible’. Now your images will be saved as jpg. Now your cameras will save in a format compatible with your ancient software version.
