XTi still clicking

My first DSLR was a Canon EOS XTi which I purchased new around 2007 or 2008. It replaced a Canon Rebel film camera. When I got GAS and updated to T1i, I sold the XTi to one of my ham radio friends. I think I included an 18-135 mm lens and an extra canon battery. Anyhow, a couple of weeks ago I ran across the ham and he told me his daughter was taking a photography course in high school and is using the XTi. I was glad to hear that it was still working and that a new generation photographer was being developed.

An EOS XTi was my first DSLR too. Many wonderful images from that camera cycle through my digital frame daily. My LR catalog says I have nearly 10,000 images in the catalog from that body. Most were shot in JPEG. About 2300 are RAW, as good as new, as if I shot them this morning.

I used it primarily for shooting soccer games. My son-in-law coached a girls soccer team starting when his older daughter was about six years old until she started college. This included both outdoor and indoor games and elite travel teams. My granddaughter was captain of her high school team in her senior year, but she wound up injuring her knee in collage and finally left the varsity team. I’ll have to dig back into my archives and pick out a few key shots. I do remember one game when I was still using the XTi and one of our best scorers was attacking when the battery went dead just as she scored. Taught me to start every shoot with a fresh fully charged battery and if I was chimping to change batteries at halftime.

'that a new generation photographer was being developed'

I only keep 1 "replaced" camera, which now is my 80D. I recently got an R7 and sold my T2i with an 18-250 mm lens to a new photographer. She didn't appreciate the range of the lens because she never started with the standard 18-55 kit lens. Years ago I sold my XT with an 18-135 mm lens to a then new photographer . I don't know if she has replaced any of it.

I'm unsure if I have UHH to thank for the impetus to change from an XTi to an EOS 7D, before then changing again to the current EOS 5DIII. Below are the closest of two similar images from the EOS XTi with an 100mm macro compared to the EOS 5DIII with an 180mm macro. One was JPEG, the other RAW, both from LR6 and downsized to 2048px on the wide side. Is it the camera, the software, the photographer or the lens?
