Smoke, Fog, Haze or Dust?

Wilderness Images Loc: Apache Junction, AZ.

The other morning, just prior to sunrise, I could see a layer of, what I determined as smoke, hanging around Superstition Mountain. The Forest Service had recently put out a notice that they would be burning some brush piles, when the weather permitted, so I thought that's what was causing that hazy layer.

I jumped into my truck and headed out in the direction of the Ghost Town, where most of the prescribed burns would be most likely to be taking place, but quickly determined that that was not the source, and instead the smoke seemed thickest further along the Southern slopes of the mountain.

As I made my turnabout, I saw this scene of Silly Mountain, the hazy desert and a Giant Saguaro standing against a sunrise. Yes, "Silly Mountain" is its real name. The air smelled of smoke, but it hung in the air more like a fog, and there hadn't been enough winds to make it a dust event. The "haze" stuck around for a few hours yet.

Thanks Iron Sight, due to the haze, the sun was too large to make use of, so I used the Saguaro to 'hide' the sunrise and yet show the haze in the background.
